Are you struggling with life transitions, health concerns, loss, or aging? In addition to talk therapy, we can work at your own pace where we’ll use techniques such as movement, mindfulness, journaling, body-scans, and breath-work, as well as narrative therapy that may incorporate music, song-writing, art, movement or other creative expression! In my counseling with you, I’ll exercise presence, and acceptance. These aspects of my style are what I hope will bring you and I in-tune with one another and eventually, you will carry this out into your own life!

My expertise is pinpointing the limiting beliefs that disable opportunity for real change through a mindfulness body based approach and hard truth dialogue.
Everything you desire to accomplish, become and embody in your one precious life is available to you right now, but not as the version of who you currently are today. The version of you today is an accumulation of your life experiences, your beliefs about yourself, the stories you abide by and familiar programming from your family, culture, and the greater society. I support my clients in becoming more attuned to their inner landscape, more aware of where and why they are getting stuck in repeating the same behaviors and patterns so they can make everlasting change to becoming the version they desire.

Unique to my practice is its grounding in an understanding of the mind according to the ancient traditions of Eastern philosophy and psychology, like mind training and mindfulness, as well as the more modern version of this understanding, the new neuroscience of the brain.
I have been working with people to achieve happier and more contented lives and relationships for more than 20 years. I have a particular interest in working with people who are interested in changing habit patterns that are familiar but not working. We all have habitual patterns of doing, being, and relating that may not be what we want in our lives today yet they persist as they have been reinforced over time. Some habits we have learned stem from childhood, others we may have developed as adults.

Incorporating body, mind and spirit in a practical approach to growth and change, I have successfully helped many individuals and couples find relief from anxiety and depression and improve their relationships. As we learn to see things more clearly, anger can be transformed into compassion, and fear can dissolve into acceptance, allowing us to be fully present and alive to celebrate our lives with joy and happiness.

And my work is grounded in somatics and mindfulness to increase your access to the present moment experience so we can accurately tune into the parts of you that may be quieter and need more space to be known.
You are a woman who would like to know how to deeply trust and nurture yourself. To care for the parts of you that need tenderness and a place to explore what brings you alive and what gets in the way of this. You may not know how or where to begin because you were not shown how. You’re so good at taking care of others that there’s nothing left for you. Or, perhaps you have learned to put yourself to the side because that is what feels safest. You may be asking yourself, “Is it okay to take care of me and what I want?”

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
