Neuro-affirming support with an emphasis on embodiment for burnout, C/PTSD, 'people pleasing', ADHD, autism, and bipolar. Rumination-Focused ERP for OCD or health anxiety. Brief or longer term therapy. With couples I focus on navigating conflict, reducing blame, and strengthening connection. I often support people facing systemic oppression and/or narcissistic abuse. Having lived experience as a neurodivergent person, I may be a good fit for people with unique problems, 'atypical' depression, prior negative experiences in therapy, or struggles that are difficult to fully articulate.

I specialize in working online with couples and family relationships. I've just published a book, That Loving Feeling: A Couples Guide to Transform Hurt & Criticism into Kindness & Gratitude. You can order on Amazon or your local independent book store. It's a fictional story of couples who are caught habits of hurt and defensiveness. Through attending a workshop in Nonviolent Communication, they treat themselves with more kindness. They learn to speak up for their needs in a way that is elicits generosity from their partner. The things that used to bother them dissolve. This story draws from my own marriage and also my clients.

Ro mantic relationships are hard, really hard, and life doesn't make it easier.
Ro mantic relationships are the ultimate hu man experience with the highest-highs and the lowest-lows. The highs make us feel vibrant, but unfortunately the lows impair our day to day functioning leading to desperate hopelessness. We know this ought not to be, as we long to have a healthy, long term sustainable relationship that is fulfilling. You want to be heard and validated by your partner. You want change both in yourself and in your partner.

To that end, I have taught and facilitated conflict resolution and community-building throughout the US and in many countries.
Each of us has a deep, loving intelligence that seeks expression in the world. We also have survival strategies formed early in life that often limit and inhibit our later lives and relationships. In my work with individuals, couples, and families, we unmask these strategies, and access the loving wisdom that is the deepest, essential nature of all hu man beings. This shift arises naturally and radically re-orients our world view and behavior toward others and toward ourselves. It unleashes our capacity for joy and creativity, and offers the only place from which to have a true relationship with the world and with others.

My worldview aligns with Hu manistic psychology, emphasizing person-centered as well as mindfulness, somatic, and holistic approaches to therapy that are foundationally trauma-informed and culturally humble.
As a good friend of mine often says, “it’s hard to be hu man.” We are given all kinds of messages that life “should” be certain ways and that we “should” be happy 100% of the time. I think this causes us much more suffering than necessary. We wouldn’t be who we are today without the challenges we have faced. How do we make the best of these challenges, grow, and move forward with more strength, resiliency, and joy? Welcome, my background began in health education and morphed into community mental health for many years, predominantly working with queer and trans youth, their families, and communities.

I work with adults of many ages, and at different stages of life, such as launching or transitioning a career, the struggle to find a new identity after divorce, & the challenges of health issues or disability.
Listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery it is." - There is great benefit to be found from tuning into your heart and mind. What are these voices saying to you? Do you sense a disconnect between your desires in life and the person you present to others? Are you a spiritual person but you don't find this impacts your daily life? It is my aim to create a safe and welcoming space where one feels known and accepted just as they are. When one feels accepted, one is able to share more and more of their journey, including the painful parts. Feeling deeply heard & understood is a starting point toward transformation.

I view therapy as a collaboration where therapist and client work together to connect with an inner healing intelligence and unconditional positive regard within each of us. We can then tend to trauma, grief, resentments, and limiting beliefs that are contributing to symptoms. With humility and reverence for the resilience, courage and vulnerability it can take to heal ourselves, I create a nonjudgemental, kind and compassionate space with room for humor, absurdity and fun.

I am a Jungian psychologist specializing in psychotherapy for depression. Also, I am a licensed psychologist and have been licensed in California since 2002. Jungian psychology can be an effective approach for dealing with a wide variety of psychological problems, but it is particularly effective in working with depression. In general, Jungian psychotherapy helps a person lead a deeper and more meaningful life. Oftentimes symptoms brought into psychotherapy, like depressive symptoms, have deeper, symbolic meanings that encourage a client to grow. Once the purpose of a symptom is understood, the symptom often decreases in severity, or goes away altogether.

In today’s everchanging world, the need for mental health support is vital to understanding yourself and to feel a sense of belonging and purpose. I believe taking a more holistic approach rather than focusing on one aspect of your life is key. Before becoming a therapist, I spent 32 years as an actor, director, and writer in the performing arts. This experience has allowed me a unique understanding of hu man beings and how personalities are formed and expressed through relationships. Most importantly, I have learned to build rapport with others which is a vital aspect of therapy.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
