Whether you want help to heal from pain, cope with depression or
anxiety
, or help to navigate life’s uncertainties, you're in the right place! I provide talk-therapy services to individuals and families looking to change their thoughts in order to live the life they want.
I see you. I see the darkness you're sitting in; the pain and shame of the dark and scary thoughts that feel unlimited and overwhelming. I see you pulling away from the life you had planned and wanted so desperately. I see you hesitating to share these feelings with anyone out of the fear of embarrassment and ridicule. I see you in pain, but I also see your potential for joy and fulfillment. I see your potential for growth and change.

I specialize in working with depression,
anxiety
, and trauma victims, including those suffering from the psychic wounds of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse.
I work with individuals & families facing several of life’s problems, & those seeking to understand themselves better to become the person they are truly meant to be. For children & adolescents these issues may include bullying, self-esteem, school motivation, depression, and
anxiety
. Young adults often come to me seeking help with relationships, career issues, marriage, & parenting. Those in mid-life, having established a career and raising a family, are often concerned with making meaning out of the second half of life. Those in their sixties and beyond come facing grief, loss, & end of life issues.

With a background working with all ages and dynamics through issues of depression,
anxiety
, trauma, abuse, childhood issues, relational issues, divorce, remarriage, blended families, faith-based issues, addictions/escaping behaviors, and codependence, I work from a psychodynamic, intersubjective lens believing healing happens in the context of relationship.
No matter what you are facing, you are worthy and there is hope. You are here because you believe change is possible, or may even know change is necessary, for your life to be more whole and authentic. But change can seem daunting, even scary. Whether you're experiencing emotions like
anxiety
or depression, relational chaos, or traumatic circumstances that seem to overwhelm your thoughts and life, therapy is a safe space to process these issues. I approach our time together with compassion and care, with the goal of seeing life through your eyes, so that the change is solely yours. You are not alone and all things are possible.

I and my team specialize in working with adults, teens, and children who are struggling with overwhelming
anxiety
and
fears
as well as OCD, tics, and hair-pulling/skin picking.
Are you or your child struggling with overwhelming worries and
fears
that seem to be present no matter what you do? Maybe it started off small, but the problems have just grown over time until they are starting to take over your daily life. You may find yourself doing different little things to try to manage the worry or reassure yourself, but it doesn't seem to be helping. Maybe you have even tried therapy before but have had difficulty finding someone who really seems to get you and understand what you need. If this sounds like you or your family, we are here to help.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
