I mostly do individual psychotherapy but also lead a psychotherapy group where people heal in a collective setting. If interested in group therapy let me know. Otherwise, here is how I work individually - 3 items on the menu. 1) Regular talk therapy, because you just need to tell your story, get support & validation. 2) Modified Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, because you need to get stable, some skills, to change your behaviors. 3) Trauma work (ie, EMDR), because your past is haunting you and we need to change that.

I specialize in reducing and eliminating symptoms of: PTSD , Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, OCD, Learning disorders, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Addictions, and Pain.
In my practice I blend together the art and science of psychotherapy with a strong focus on global change. My intention is to help you thrive. I use a comprehensive approach with a strong mind-body focus and integrate psychoanalysis with neuroscience. This helps to interpret properly and work more efficiently toward transforming maladaptive mechanisms that stifle your life. Often I use Neurofeedback, Biofeedback, and Photobiomodulation and work directly and noninvasively with the brain and the nervous system. This helps you self-regulate and embody change quicker, with less distress. In most cases the results are permanent.

I am trained in Family Therapy and although not always the case, therapy often moves faster when you are willing to include other family members as a part of therapy at some point. It helps me understand you in the broader context of the people that are important to you or have influence in your life. I have been married for 34 years and have three adult children so my personal experience often informs me, along with my training and the expertise I have gathered being a part of The Family Therapy Institute.

My door is open to anyone seeking a peaceful place to mend themselves. Though I am most experienced assisting survivors of trauma , I recognize that " trauma " can be an intimidating word. Not everyone identifies with it. So, if you feel that you have experienced a loss, are grieving or have been heavily impacted by something let's have a conversation to see if we are a good fit.

I specialize in anxiety, depression, PTSD , teens, young adults, adults, and families (including foster care).
As an openly transgender therapist, I know it can be difficult to find the right person to confide in. Wanting to be loved and accepted doesn’t make you needy, or extra, or selfish, or weak. It makes you human. To me, you are not just some random psychology textbook or theory. In our work together, my focus is to build goals and a relationship where you feel comfortable exploring what you think, feel, want, and need. My style as a therapist is warm, relaxed, and conversational. I use playfulness, imagery, art, metaphors, curiosity, creativity, self-compassion, and humor when appropriate to support the therapeutic process.

Therapy is an opportunity to move our lives toward the truest expression of our core selves. To live more fully and deeply, to have closer, more loving relationships, and to feel resilient in the face of challenge. My approach is individually tailored, drawing from a background in psychodynamic and attachment orientations, trauma -informed and somatic therapies, and mindfulness practices. Over more than 35 years in practice, I have worked particularly closely with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

I specialize in trauma recovery, supporting survivors of childhood abuse, and people experiencing first-generation relational and systemic issues.
My approach to therapy is similar to my approach to life: adaptable and authentic. I think it is important to meet people where they are and to acknowledge the systemic issues that have brought challenges into their lives. I work from a multicultural and relational perspective (in other words, our families and our cultural influence who we are and it is important to bring that into therapy). NOTE: my capacity is very limited (as I continue to help through a CBO), currently only providing telehealth services.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
