I help those who feel that life has become a struggle, when transitions in relationships, academic life, or career may bring inhibiting anxiety or an overwhelming depression . I share observations and insights with the intention of helping clients as quickly as possible. My work as a therapist is informed by my own life passages as a wife, mother, widow, single parent, empty nester, and older graduate student. As someone who has embarked on a new career in later life, I understand both the fear and the rewards in managing life-enhancing changes.

Additional areas of focus include: career/work satisfaction, family caregivers, chronic pain, mid-life themes, survivors of childhood abuse, trauma, depression , anxiety, grief, partner betrayal/infdelity.
To be happy and free of suffering ... this is the experience of effective therapy. When we're witnessed, deeply understood and guided to our true self, the challenges of being human can become magical. Blending multiple clinical orientations I work with the client's whole being - mind, body & spirit - to discover his/her own unique truths and capacities. Because so much of who we are is a function of our relationships, I gravitate toward couples, families and groups, teaching people how to relate to themselves and each other with refreshing honesty and authenticity.

Am skilled in relationship and attachment issues, persons of all ages experiencing anxiety and depression , or who are suffering under intense interpersonal or professional relationship challenges, health crises, and issues related to care of aging family members.
Ideally, I hope for clients who want change, or who are in a huge shift in their lives. The most secret, vulnerable parts of ourselves require a trusted, open sanctuary for healing to begin. Life can be difficult, cruel at times, but the luminous is real, and contains genuine relief. We always have options. We cannot always see them. A good fit for me is someone who wants a therapist who will really listen, but who brings a lot of lived experience. I have desire to see people thrive and grow, set a new course. My clients usually find their courage, as we work, slower or faster. Resilience is always there. You have gotten here.

I treat depression , generalized anxiety, social anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic attacks, phobias, PTSD, relationship anxiety, and anxiety related to medical problems.
My goal as a therapist is to provide a comfortable setting that allows you to get the greatest benefit from our work together. In addition to traditional office sessions, I offer flexible solutions including phone, teletherapy, or home visits. Emotional issues can trigger or make a significant contribution to anxiety, skin conditions, skin picking issues and hair pulling (trichotillomania) issues. Relaxation, visualizations, and a mixture of cognitive behavioral therapy and body-focused psychotherapy can make the difference. You can take more control by discovering how to manage your emotional triggers and by developing strategies to alleviate anxiety, skin issues, skin picking, and hair pulling.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
