I meet with people experiencing
grief
, anxiety, depression, and those who struggle with relational intimacy, abandonment, and attachment challenges.
It can be very challenging to see things clearly in life. I help individuals re-adjust their way of looking at themselves, their relationships, and the world. Through psycho-dynamic exploration, I come alongside a patient in the discovery of what is possible, as it is my belief that the most crucial part of therapy is the relationship that builds between patient and therapist. It is often easier to shine a light into uncertain areas of one's heart and mind when someone else is holding the flashlight.

For over a decade I have helped people heal early life trauma & family violence, recover from addiction, manage anger/anxiety, deal with depression, live with disabilities & chronic illness, work through crises of identity & meaning, as well as navigate the
grief
/losses associated with major life transitions.
NOTE: Currently, my practice is limited to seeing individuals on Saturdays only. I look forward helping you find more effective ways of dealing with the conflicts and changes of everyday life. If you struggle with unhealthy coping strategies such as dependency on substances/behaviors, seem to repeat the same self-defeating patterns in relationships, have difficulty managing intense, overwhelming feelings or often feel misunderstood while trying to communicate, I can help you alter underlying patterns and develop tools that lead to enduring change.

Some subjects that I have spent time working with are
bereavement
,
death
and dying, identity issues, LGBTQ+, family relational problems, and gaining insight and wisdom into daily living.
I meet my clients where they are at, and begin by building on the relationship where we can focus on the parts that seem to be holding one back from living their most authentic life. Every one has their own unique journey, and I believe that in a strong therapeutic relationship, healing, growth, and transformation is possible. Therapy allows for one to gain insight and awareness around one's patterns of behavior. Let us meet together to see if we are a good fit.

bereavement
and the caretaking of loved ones.
I enjoy working with children, adults, couples and families. I hold a Life Teaching Credential in California and I am a state licensed LMFT. I work with clients presenting with a range of concerns including: trauma, stress, relationship conflicts, life-transitions, creative blocks,
grief

Psychotherapy is an opportunity to engage in a supportive, collaborative, and dynamic partnership. Therapy is a creative process of self-exploration, self-discovery and self-understanding. With my client's goals and needs always leading the work, I draw from my expertise in psychodynamic models of "talk therapy," dance/movement therapy, EMDR Therapy, and experiential mindfulness practices, to help my clients become unstuck and embody health, growth, and change.

Being a lifelong griever myself, I know that
grief
and
loss
can often leave you feeling broken, misunderstood, lost, and alone, especially if your
loss
is not taken seriously by others around you.
Losing a loved one is a heart shattering experience that can evoke feelings of anxiety & depression. When you are experiencing
grief
and
loss
-related stress, it's hard to fathom how you are going to pick yourself up and ever feel even close to being "okay" again. It hurts, it's not fair, and you would do anything for just one more moment with them. You are afraid that the memories you have of them will fade and then there will be nothing left to hold onto. I will work with you to develop new ways to maintain a meaningful bond with your loved one (human or animal) and to memorialize them in a way special to you.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
