We use the whole body, nervous system, beliefs, feelings and thoughts to treat depression , anxiety, trauma and other difficulties.
The goal of surf therapy is to use both body and mind focusing on wellness. In addition to traditional talk therapy techniques, we take a structured approach to surfing to achieve therapeutic benefit. It is a somatic form of therapy that utilizes the wisdom of the body. No surf experience is needed. On sand and sea, we explore the types of strategies needed to understand, manage conditions, and be clear about our limits and strengths. We focus on the skills needed to manage and thrive in everyday conditions.

Therapy is an investment in yourself and it can impact the trajectory of your life. We all experience symptoms of anxiety, depression , grief and overwhelm from time-to-time but you don't have to navigate those dark times alone. We don't heal in isolation; struggles become more bearable when they are companioned by someone who helps you clear a path toward the life you want to live. During sessions we will identify and challenge dysfunctional patterns, investigate the impact of family history, build resilience, and identify your strengths while expanding your repertoire of healthy coping skills.

I've been an educator for over 20 years, at Dartmouth College and UC Santa Barbara, where I met many young adults facing stress, anxiety, and depression . Their experience inspired me to start clinical training in 2005 at the New Center for Psychoanalysis in LA, where I have also been a faculty member. My approach to psychoanalysis is interdisciplinary; I'm affiliated with the Neuroscience Institute at UCSB and was a clinical member of THRIVE Infant-Family Program in LA. My current research focuses on the links between biology, sociality, psychology and the environment. I specialize in infant-family therapy, adults, and seniors.

In my private practice I specialize in relational issues as well as anxiety, depression and PTSD due to trauma. EMDR is a modality that I offer in addition to an integrative approach to talk therapy to help deepen an individual’s healing process. I help clients learn how to access internal resources by integrating body awareness with the thought process. In addition to hands on counseling experience , it is my my own life experiences that have helped inform my practice and deepen my understanding of the challenges that accompany complicated life transitions.

For many people it is hard to ask for help when it comes to sorting out the challenges of life. Making the decision to seek assistance from a therapist is courageous and can be rewarded with a safe, warm and supportive therapy environment. I work with people who often feel they are in crisis, experience anxiety or depression , have a low sense of self and struggle with the relationships in their lives but are motivated to gain insight and skills that are necessary to make lasting positive changes.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
