Little is more human than struggle. Whether trying to better know oneself, understand a longing, or connect deeply, we perpetually face challenges. Struggles often come with discomfort— a nagging urgency, a rising heat, a constricted throat. Feeling discomfort, our response is often to distract, mitigate, or attempt to resolve the presumed catalyst. While possible and sometimes effective, such approaches merely quell the moment’s upheaval. The underlying dynamic remains. At times, we only have capacity for such responses. But you’ve found yourself here, reading this. Chances are you’re seeking to change something more fundamental.

My foundation is grounded upon Systems Theory, Child-Parent Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems Theory, Somatic/Polyvagal Theory, & Mindfulness.
To live is to feel pain in its various expressions. Our relationships with our family systems are often the blueprint by which we respond to the experience. Certain responses can result in experiences of depression, anxiety, or the habitual urge to numb ourselves. The ability to experience, hold space for, and then release our pain is the path to healing, where your heart and mind stop fighting and arrive together, finding acceptance, peace, and understanding. "The climb might be tough and challenging, but the view is worth it. There is a purpose for that pain; you just can’t always see it right away." – Victoria Arlen.

I often draw from CBT, Mindfulness, Parts Work, and Gottman methods, integrating techniques from various approaches to support self-awareness, emotional regulation, and lasting change.
Inside a life that often looks successful or "handled," something can still feel heavy, disconnected, or stuck. Whether it shows up as relentless anxiety, burnout, or a subtle misalignment with your true self, you don't have to carry it alone. I’m Christina, a therapist with 20 years of experience. As a Queer woman, I provide a safe, affirming space for LGBTQ+ individuals and couples to process trauma, explore identity, connection, and quiet the pressure of "having it all together" while managing life’s transitions. I also welcome anyone who values authenticity and is ready to move beyond simply getting through the day-to-day.

“I should be better than this.” That critical voice can feel relentless, especially when careers, relationships, and expectations all collide. Maybe you’re burnt out, stuck in comparison, doomscrolling late at night, or repeating the same painful relationship patterns. You might even feel ashamed for needing help, telling yourself you should be able to handle this alone. If this sounds familiar, you’re not broken, and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
