One of my specialties is working with adults and teenagers who grew up in alcoholic or dysfunctional families, helping them to move beyond their family legacy, learning how their childhood affected them in the past and how it is influencing them in the present.
Awaken to the Possibilities..Change Your life for the Better! For over 20 years I have been helping people overcome and grow beyond their painful emotions and relationships, gain access to their personal longings and inner resources, and discover their deepest wisdom. Clients tell me that I have not only helped them resolve their presenting symptoms but also helped them heal the underlying source of their problems. Most people feel significantly better and are more prepared to cultivate their lives in uniquely rich and meaningful ways.

I found my calling to become a psychotherapist out of a desire to help people live happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives. I work with individuals, couples and families to help them resolve the impact of abuse and trauma, as well as problems of depression, anxiety, anger, grief, couples' discord, family conflicts, behavioral issues, low self-esteem, and life transitions. I am passionate about helping my clients who feel lost about their life directions with career exploration and identity development. As a Christian, I also love integrating spirituality with psychological well-being with clients for whom spirituality is relevant.

Self-discovery is a unique journey that we all take. Our experiences, intersectional identities and environments are constantly shaping who we are. This can be an exciting and challenging time in which we tend to engage in a reflective process as various questions arise. “Will I fit in here?” “Who is there to turn to for guidance?” “What does this experience mean for me?” Individual, couple and family therapy can be an integral part of working through challenges, all of which I fully embrace on the therapeutic journey.

I understand the profound impact addiction has not only on the addict, but also on his family .
You're using drugs/alcohol too much, and you can't stop. You are lost, miserable and scared, and you want to be found. I offer a compassionate, supportive and direct approach to help you meet your needs and achieve your goals. You're ready to explore your underlying, and probably ancient, beliefs that you hold about yourself and that fuel chronic negative thoughts and behaviors. We will work together to rediscover your authentic self, that person who was somehow left behind and is waiting for you to come back. I provide an eclectic approach. You receive a personal assessment, then focused treatment that best fits you.

I am knowledgeable about Family Based Therapy and am a firm believer in collaborating with other treatment providers as adjunct support for my clients to ensure I am treating them from a holistic perspective.
I believe for therapy to be effective, there must be established trust, a willingness to be vulnerable and a commitment to be authentic. I work with those seeking for a more balanced sense of themselves. My style is direct, transparent, insight-oriented and Psychodynamic. I use cognitive behavioral techniques and evidence based practices to help clients achieve their goals of working through depression, managing anxiety, replenishing caregiver-burnt out and coping with life stress. I am a family educator and also believe a sense of humor (when appropriate), is necessary for this line of work. Certified SoulCollage® facilitator.

Therapy shouldn't have to be complicated or intimidating. What is most crucial-perhaps even more important than credentials or education-is that you feel comfortable with your therapist. You’ve made it out of the pandemic and are ready to get your life back! Perhaps you were at home with family or isolated in an apartment? The pause gave you space to think and to evaluate what you actually want your life to look like: more time with loved ones, more time for self-care, less time on your phones?

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
