I believe that people are resilient and resourceful, capable of overcoming difficulties. Sometimes we get entangled in personal and relational patterns that can overwhelm our resources. I help clients identify these problematic patterns and empower them to break free from patterns that do not serve them well. I focus on my client's interpersonal relationships and relationships with larger social systems. I have experience working with children, teens, families, and couples on several issues, including family and couple distress, trauma, and various presentations of anxiety and depression through a systemic and attachment-based lens.

My practice is attachment-based .
Clients who come to me are often seeking help for an IEP evaluation after being denied by their school. Some come for themselves curious if they have ADHD or are on the spectrum. Are you trying to understand and get a handle on your child's difficulties at home and school? Does your child show symptoms of autism? Do you wonder if you or your child have a learning disability? Did your child spend extensive time in the NICU and/or PICU and you wonder if this affected their development? Did you adopt from an orphanage and now your child is exhibiting extreme behaviors that you do not understand and cannot manage? I am here to help!

Are you interested in discovering how you could be using the scientific evidence that is now available that neuroplasticity and creating new neuropathways can make it possible to eliminate mental and even physical chronic disease conditions, allowing you to overcome obstacles like anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and childhood adversity, self-hatred, shame, and trauma?” Psychotherapists have developed many techniques to help people change the way they think, and this works well for some people, but not everyone. There are obstacles to doing years of therapy including cost.

I believe that all people have innate skills and strengths and have the potential to live rich and meaningful lives but sometimes get stuck in patterns and behaviors that interfere with their ability to grow. I believe psychotherapy is an important tool to help people discover their natural ability to heal, to love and to live healthy and fulfilling lives. Our fast-paced and demanding lives can create uncomfortable stressors in individuals and families. My time with each client provides an opportunity for calm and reflection in challenging and stressful lives.

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist whose specialty is helping others improve their relationships. I believe that we all aspire to have deep, loving connections in our lives. I will help you to remove hurdles that may be impeding such connections in your life. Often, among these hurdles may be unhealed childhood experiences, baggage from previous relationships, and dysfunctional relating styles. Becoming more clear on what you have inherited from your family and what you developed as coping mechanisms will be the first step in aligning with your authentic self.

I provide psychotherapy services for adults and adolescents. Life is messy, and being human can be painful. Sometimes we may feel hopeless. Sometimes we may feel saturated in shame or self-doubt. Sometimes we may feel overwhelmed with depression, anxiety, grief, anger, loneliness, or the reverberations of past experiences. These feelings and experiences can leave us with emotional bumps and bruising that impact the way we move through the world, relate to others, and relate to ourselves. Healing is possible. I believe we all share the innate capacity to heal, grow and feel whole.

If you are a woman who has been successful in your career but not in your relationships, therapy can help you to identify your strengths and move past the obstacles that have held you back. Our work will include understanding you as a person and not as a diagnosis, identifying the blocks that have held you back, and helping you build a more solid and confident sense of yourself. One of the hardest things about therapy can be making the initial call. If you have been searching for an approach to therapy that is warm, welcoming, and supportive, as well as intelligent and engaged, let's talk.

I help clients to know their strengths, how their cultures and families affect them, their needs and their purpose - their very selves. They may lack good ways to get their needs met. Or, they may not be asking the right questions. They may be looking for more calm, more joy and more control over their thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

My goal as a therapist is to cultivate a safe space for clients to explore their inner experiences with curiosity and lack of judgment. I work through a trauma informed lens, understanding the complex ways in which our lived experiences, as well as societal and systemic factors, shape our feelings, behaviors, self-concept, and the way we relate to others. As a biracial therapist (White/Filipina) who holds white privilege, I enjoy helping clients explore their racial identity and/or engage in ongoing anti-racism work. I also have experience working with clients who come to therapy to address harm and healing from race-based trauma.

Hello and welcome! Working with youth & young adults is a passion of mine, as is supporting youth & caregivers in increasing their understanding of one another with the goal of strengthening child-caregiver relationships. I feel a particular pull to support young people in tuning into their internal voice so that they can build a strong sense of self-worth, & so that they are then able to navigate life transitions & all that comes with those transitions with that much more ease.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
