I use Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples and also have a background in communication skills, attachment parenting, bereavement, and trauma .
My approach to therapy is to help my clients work their way through the layers of injury, loss and protection that surround them, to reach the more open, undefended core inside. I believe it is the experiencing of that deepest part of ourselves which makes us feel alive and makes us feel connected to ourselves and others. I work to create a safe, compassionate environment in which healing can happen in moments and over time. I work with couples and individuals to help them recognize and alter the patterns that seem to get them stuck in their relationships.

These evidence-based models are foundational to my work with you as an individual, a couple, or a family to heal core aspects of relational trauma , conflicts, anxiety, and depression that keep you stuck in old, ineffective ways of being.
At the heart of our struggles and pains are relationships. At the heart of our hopes and dreams are relationships. Whether it is your relationship with anxiety and depression, with your career, with your partner, sister, son, daughter, boss, or parent-everything is about relationships. Therapy helps you tackle some of the most challenging questions we all face. How do we repair what needs to be fixed in our relationships, including the relationship with ourselves? What needs attention, a new perspective, a better skill, or emotional resolve to enable you to become more authentic and improve your connection to self and others?

I have spent more than two decades providing assessments, consultation and therapy for young children and their families around issues of behavior, anxiety, depression, ADHD, ASD, learning disabilities and trauma .
You are so worried about your child. She cries everytime you drop her off at preschool and she is so shy at birthday parties that she won't leave your side. You thought she would outgrow this, but instead she seems to be more and more afraid of things. She is happy at home, but she still follows you from room to room. You just want her to relax and enjoy her childhood. You remember when your child first started school, how excited you were! You thought she would soon warm up and make friends. You want to be able to pick your child up from school and hear from the teacher that she was just fine once you left. You want to hear about what your child learned, and that your child played well with friends.

Do you feel like you are not like yourself anymore? Are your relationships suffering now because you're lost? It can be confusing, frustrating, and painful. Often times, the power of having a safe space to share what happened, express your emotions, and notice the unhealthy beliefs has been overlooked. It can quickly become isolating and feeling misunderstood. It does not have to be. You can be yourself again and reach your full potential by reaching out for help.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
