I work primarily with clients suffering from family trauma (physical/emotional/sexual abuse, domestic violence, attachment, neglect, incest) to re-author their story.
Are you living with the effects of trauma or an abusive relationship? It IS possible to move beyond difficult experiences. Therapy is a safe space to tackle the symptoms instead of yourself. Through collaboration we discover strengths inside you that will bring you healing. A traumatic childhood can shape the story you have about yourself and your ability to achieve healthy connections. Unhealthy/Unwanted romantic or sexual relationships can effect how you view love and what you deserve. Let's work together to rediscover YOU, understanding your experience in a way that brings relief, moving beyond events that cause pain.

In our life's journey, we encounter experiences that significantly shape us. Often, our ingrained behaviors are acquired unconsciously, and we may feel constrained by the narratives we've absorbed or the challenges we've faced. As a therapist specializing in trauma, I recognize the uniqueness of each person's path. My approach is eclectic, blending various therapeutic modalities, and is tailored to meet your specific needs, values, and aspirations. In a safe and nurturing environment, we foster authenticity, trust, and empathy. I deeply respect your vulnerability as we collaboratively explore the intricacies of your inner world.

You are already taking the first step on a transformative journey by advocating for yourself and looking into therapy! Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, relationship stress, PTSD, or want to gain a better insight to your patterns and emotions, therapy can bring you closer to coming home to your authentic self and living the life you want. There is a proverb that states if you want to go fast go alone, but to go far, you must go together. Let’s go together to find the right pathways out of the woods as we untangle your mental knots, let go of what is no longer serving you, and help you write your own narrative.

It may very well be that our deepest longing and need is for connection. To be heard and understood. To be known in places where many others are never allowed. To be more connected to the lost neglected parts of ourselves and those we care about. You have this opportunity in the safety of psychotherapy. It isn't always an easy road. Perhaps this sounds intimidating. Often it entails letting go of destructive habits or getting unstuck. We may need to look at old patterns and create new ones. There may be moments of laughing, crying, or facing hard truths.

Welcome, and congratulations on taking the first step toward creating change. My motto is "Travel light, live light, spread the light, be the light." This can only be accomplished by shedding burdens that weigh you down. I aim to create a compassionate and nurturing environment for personal exploration and healing. I enjoy working with clients who may be apprehensive of mental health services or have had negative experiences with therapy in the past.

Life is all about relationships! From the moment we are born to the last breath, we are embedded in relationships...it is the very essence of life. Yet, sometimes they are the most difficult to navigate through with confusing twists and turns that leave us feeling cut off and alone from the very ones we need and love. Often, we can see what it is we want, but have no idea of how to get there because we are stuck or blocked from moving forward. I can help you to remove these obstacles by utilizing Brainspotting (www.Brainspotting.com) or EMDR (www.EMDRIA.org).

I believe therapy to be a safe place where someone who is in need of help can be heard free of judgment. One of the main keys of therapy is working together on eliminating behaviors and belief patterns that do not help you grow as a person. By using various approaches that are tailored to your needs, therapy will assist in the development of tools and skills, which will help support personal growth. (Mi lengua materna es el español si le es mas agusto comunicarse asi).

What do you want to change? Maybe building healthier relationships. Maybe it's about finding the courage to fulfill life goals. Often we don't like ourselves enough and so we have low self esteem, anxiety, depression, unhealthy relationships or troubling behaviors. We absolutely can feel better! We can re-find our healthy selves, find motivation and create healthier human connections.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
