My name is McKenna Talley and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have been providing mental health services for over a decade and I have been absolutely loving it. As a young adult, I had plans of making it on Broadway as an actress. My love for theater has stuck around, but over time I realized that I like helping real people recognize the role they play in their life is the greatest part they could ever have. Nothing speaks to my soul more than connecting to people and helping them find their main character energy. Life can be hard and I like to help people be their biggest fan rather than their biggest critic.

You may look like you're managing well - successful, responsible, deeply committed to your family and community. But under the surface, you're running on empty. You're tired of pushing through, craving space to slow down, make sense of what you're feeling, and reconnect - with yourself, your people, and what matters most. If you're seeking something deeper, you're not alone.

I love working with highly motivated couples and individuals who are ready to do the hard work of healing. Maybe you’ve spent years getting degrees or a dream job at the expense of connection to others. Perhaps alcohol or drugs helped you cope for a while but they’ve created some problems of their own. The pressure to succeed can be traumatic and distance you from those you love. I want to help you realign to succeed in life and love!

The Institute for Relational Well-being (IRWB) offers evidence-based therapies like CBT, DBT, EFT, and the Gottman Method, tailored to support individuals, couples, and families.
I work with couples, parents, and families navigating relationships under strain, partners stuck in patterns of distance, tension, or repeated conflict; parents co-parenting through separation or divorce; and families whose lives now include the family court system. They are often thoughtful, capable people who function well in many areas, yet feel discouraged about why relationships feel harder than they should. They want more than tools or techniques; they want to understand what's happening beneath the surface and rebuild something honest, secure, and sustaining.

Has all the stress over the past few years taken a toll on your mental health and relationships? Have problems that weren't too bad a couple of years ago become much worse over time? A lot of people and relationships have been struggling to cope with high stress and anxiety, and have developed unhealthy habits like overeating, overspending, smoking and drinking, and too much screen time - leading to anxiety, addictions, panic attacks, relationship problems and more. The key to recovery is upgrading your coping skills to help you take control of your thoughts, emotions and choices, and learning new ways to manage life's stressors.

If you feel stuck in behaviors, symptoms, or relationships that aren’t serving you, or if it seems like something is always blocking you from moving forward, you’re not alone. You may know what you’ve been through, but still feel unsure how to truly heal from it. When time or talk therapy alone hasn’t helped, it might be time to go deeper.

You’re not new to therapy—you understand your patterns, yet still feel stuck. I work with high-functioning, psychologically minded individuals who want more than insight—they want change. My approach integrates DBT, depth-oriented (Jungian/psychodynamic), existential, and trauma-informed work. I am EMDR certified and use it to help process experiences that continue to shape present functioning. This is active, collaborative work focused on what maintains your patterns—and how to shift them. Some patterns aren’t managed—they’re dismantled and given a Viking’s funeral.

Gottman Method Therapists
How does the Gottman method work?
One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?
Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?
The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?
Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
