Most of the work I have done has been in community based settings helping individuals and families struggling with addiction, trauma and mental health. I look forward to continuing this work through my private practice as I believe when one individual gets better the whole family can and it can change the trajectory for generations.

We're artists, leaning into the world & willing our lives. And rapture, an essential feeling, leads us outward to be more truly ‘there’. Heidegger thus interprets Nietzsche’s “will to power:” A strong, full-bodied interest & movement towards the world, before us as a possibility but not always chosen. Poignantly, Heidegger (1961) names a “fallen” state: “Of someone who is intoxicated...he [sic] 'has' something like rapture. But his is not enraptured. The rapture of intoxication [does not raise one] beyond himself. What we are here calling rapture is merely...being 'soused,' something depriv[ing] us of every possible state of being."

Do you feel weary of the constant parade of "failed" relationships that show up in your life? Would you like to discover the secret to attracting and keeping a healthy committed relationship? If you answered "yes" to these questions, you have come to the right place. I have 25 years of experience in helping people just like you to understand how the patterns of unhealthy relationships are laid down very early in life. Relationships are like a "dance" in which each partner performs their "steps". Becoming aware of your "steps" means you can change them, and reap amazing rewards.

My name is McKenna Talley and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have been providing mental health services for over a decade and I have been absolutely loving it. As a young adult, I had plans of making it on Broadway as an actress. My love for theater has stuck around, but over time I realized that I like helping real people recognize the role they play in their life is the greatest part they could ever have. Nothing speaks to my soul more than connecting to people and helping them find their main character energy. Life can be hard and I like to help people be their biggest fan rather than their biggest critic.

Many people come to me wondering why they're unhappy, anxious, or unable to find fulfillment. The problem may seem obvious but a solution impossible. The same painful experiences repeat themselves, but why? And how to change them? If we meet, I will work together to discover how you can come to grips with whatever is troubling you. In doing so, you may discover, as sometimes happens, that there are ways to experience yourself and others that are genuinely different from what you've known thus far.

These men are often in crisis when we first meet. The issues I address are typically related to unhealthy sexual behaviors, infidelity, broken relationships, drugs/alcohol, dishonesty/lying, financial recklessness, and gambling. My therapy approach is a combination of psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and the 12-Step recovery model. I also share insight from my own painful but redemptive recovery journey.

I work with individuals navigating BFRBs (hair pulling and skin picking), ADHD, and neurodivergence, as well as other therapists and those in helping roles. Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, sensitive, and self-aware, but feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from themselves. I also support people during these times of overwhelm and collapse (activists, organizers, healthcare workers, healers) and those who feel deeply impacted by the world around them. My work centers understanding these experiences in context, not as problems to fix, but as patterns shaped by your life, relationships, and environment.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.
How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.
How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.
What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
