Once rapport is established I tend to be emotionally focused with individuals and couples while utilizing skills from CBT and Gottman to tailor the therapy experience to your specific needs.
My name is McKenna Talley and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have been providing mental health services for over a decade and I have been absolutely loving it. As a young adult, I had plans of making it on Broadway as an actress. My love for theater has stuck around, but over time I realized that I like helping real people recognize the role they play in their life is the greatest part they could ever have. Nothing speaks to my soul more than connecting to people and helping them find their main character energy. Life can be hard and I like to help people be their biggest fan rather than their biggest critic.

I am trained in EMDR and CBT.
The average person will experience 3-5 traumatic events in their life. The average first responder will experience 188 in their career. We live in a society that has normalized “suck it up” as a coping strategy and that doesn’t work. Are you a first responder (law enforcement , fire, EMS, dispatch)? Is the job itself and/or organizational stress feeling heavier than it once did? Are you noticing changes in yourself that you don’t understand or need help with? Post-traumatic stress injuries are extremely common in first responders and they are treatable. Let’s talk.
I am accepting clients located in California and Massachusetts.

You may have done years of therapy, personal growth, or spiritual work, yet something still isn’t fully shifting. On the outside, your life may look capable, even successful. You might be a high performer others rely on. But internally, patterns repeat in your relationships, or there’s a sense you’re not living as freely or fully as you could be. Often, the people I work with are thoughtful, sensitive, & deeply aware. Many are creatives—artists or writers, or high-functioning professionals who feel things intensely and long to be more fully expressed, but find that something inside feels blocked, muted, or just out of reach.

You want to understand yourself better and take ownership of showing up in life in the way that you want to. Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists
How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?
Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.
When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.
How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.
Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
