Having personally navigated social services systems-from public assistance to mental health support - I bring a unique perspective to my clinical work. I understand the overwhelming stress these systems can create, and I am committed to being a supportive and knowledgeable ally for my clients. Despite these hardships, I’ve experienced the healing power of healthy relationships, strong boundaries, and community- experience that continue to shape how I practice and connect with others.

I approach therapy based on the individuality of each adult, teen, and child, and their personal needs.
It can be difficult for both parents and youth to reach out for help; many just shut down. Having a specialization in children and adolescence allows me to assist youth and parent(s) with their relationship with self and others. Supporting families of children and youth in the development of healthy relationships is a necessity for healing.

I offer in person therapy sessions for couples, individuals (adults, children, teens) and families.
There are times in our life when difficulties lead to thoughts and feelings within us that we are uncomfortable with. Ignoring those feelings doesn’t make them go away and often leave us frustrated and feeling stuck. Seeking counseling is a helpful way to find relief and healing when struggling with mental and emotional suffering, relationship conflicts, daily stress, and unhealthy behavior patterns. My background includes supporting clients in schools, homes, clinics, and correctional facilities. My practice also includes providing therapy to students, law enforcement, teachers, first responders, and medical personnel.

I work with people who have a wide range of symptoms and goals for individuals, couples and families, especially in the areas of trauma, as well as working with parents with children on Autism Spectrum Disorder.
There is no way around the fact that life throws ongoing curve balls, and sometimes those balls feel enormously overwhelming. I see therapy as a means to help people move through their suffering and finds better ways to experience their life and develop aspects of their mind that equip them to feel more joy, inner comfort, inner integration and meaning. I work empathically to build awareness of repetitive patterns, gain relief from emotional pain and help build deeper connections to oneself and others. My careful use of attunement and connecting one's core self to "parts" of the mind, one can experience deep and lasting change.

I specialize in working with teens, women of color, parent- child relationships, and the queer community, bringing lived experience to every session.
Your first session is all about getting to know each other and figuring out how we can work together. We'll start with the basics, who you are, what's bringing you to therapy right now, and what you're hoping to get out of our time together. I'll ask about your background, current challenges, and what support looks like for you. We'll also talk about your goals: What do you want to be different? What would make therapy feel worth your time? Whether you have specific things you want to work on or you're just trying to figure it out, that's completely fine, we'll map it out together.

FAQ - About Child Therapy
When does a child need to see a therapist?
Children naturally experience emotional ups and downs. Sometimes, though, they need support from a professional. A child may benefit from therapy if their emotions or behaviors change significantly within a short period of time. For example, if a child usually spends time with friends after school but begins isolating in their room, further inquiry is warranted. Other areas for concern include altered sleep patterns, lack of appetite, intense anger, irritability, or hopelessness, or developmental regression in young children (bedwetting, thumb-sucking).

What can a child therapist help with?
A therapist can help with any difficult experience a child may encounter growing up, including learning problems or anxiety related to school, relationship challenges with friends or parents, bullying, intense emotions or phobias, divorce and family dynamics, or the death of a pet or loved one. A therapist can help children process their experience and develop coping skills in an age-appropriate way

What therapy types are most suitable for children?
Children can benefit from different forms of therapy, including family therapy, parent-child interaction therapy, play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and exposure therapy, depending on their condition. Play therapy is a great option for younger children who may not be able to fully articulate their feelings. In this approach, kids play with toys and games while a therapist observes and helps the child express their emotions and develop coping skills.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
