Parenting Therapists in San Jose, CA

I work primarily with teens and adults and specialize in a variety of presenting concerns: stress/anxiety, depression, grief/loss, PTSD/trauma, body image/disordered eating, relationship difficulties/boundaries, career/life transitions. Some of us enter therapy with very specific goals, other times the goals become more clear as therapy progresses. Either way, something that is necessary is an openness and willingness to participate. I understand that therapy can be overwhelming in the beginning, and that is why my goal is first and foremost to always ensure that you as the client feel as safe and comfortable as possible.

Therapy can be helpful for everyone, it is a chance to share your thoughts and process things that have happened in a non-judgmental, safe space with a person who can hold those thoughts for you. Therapy is part of a journey to understand yourself. When you are better able to understand yourself, you are better able to understand the world around you and better able to navigate that world.

Congratulations on taking the courageous step to begin therapy. As we all know, life can be challenging and demanding at times. This may lead us to feeling sad, angry, hopeless or confused. We may feel stuck and not know how to move forward; which can be a very lonely and scary place to be as well. However, you are not alone and healing is possible! My role as a therapist is to provide a safe place and offer warmth and empathy throughout this collaborative process, in order to help you in exploring your thoughts and feelings, as well as guide you in developing insight and identifying skills to achieve the thriving life you deserve.

Let's be honest. People are as numerous as the stars in the sky and as unique as the snowflakes in winter. As a client, you deserve a supportive, therapeutic approach based upon you, the individual. So while I, as a therapist, counselor and clinician, may sometimes gravitate toward a number of theories and modalities such as Person-Centered, CBT, DBT and ACT, rather than shoehorn a client into a particular type of therapy, I do just the opposite.

I believe that people are resilient, resourceful, and capable of overcoming difficulties. Sometimes we get entangled in personal and relational patterns that can overwhelm our resources. I help clients identify these problematic patterns and empower them to break free from those that do not serve them. I also focus on my client's interpersonal relationships and relationships with larger social systems. I have experience working with children, teens, families, and couples on several issues, including family and couple distress, trauma, and various presentations of anxiety and depression through IFS and attachment-based lens.

I work with couples and individuals who see the balance of life is shifting into survival mode and their ability to enjoy life is burdened by the stresses of responsibilities and even the most valued relationships. My clients are deeply caring people who are successful in life and recognize that it's time to course correct to regain a sense of peace, joy and connectedness to the things that matter most.

I have been in practice since 2007 and have been featured on ABC, NBC, and KCAL as an expert psychologist. I work primarily with men who have hit “rock bottom” and would like help getting up. These men are often in crisis when we first meet. The issues I address are typically related to unhealthy sexual behaviors, infidelity, financial recklessness, gambling, drugs/alcohol, dishonesty/lying, and relational conflicts. My therapy approach is a combination of psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and the 12-Step recovery model. I also share insight from my own painful but redemptive recovery journey.

I am here to listen to you. I work with children, teens, and adults to support exploration of difficult issues and life changes. Often what brings someone to seek counseling, either for themselves or for their child, is being faced with a challenge they need support navigating and resolving. This issue may result from an atypical experience or be more pervasive, and can bring about feelings of anger, depression, anxiety, low self-worth, or communication issues. Taking the risk to ask for help is the first step on the road toward healing and growth.
