Parenting Therapists in San Jose, CA
Hey! I’m a systems-based therapist who believes therapy doesn’t have to be stiff or serious all the time. I love using humor, curiosity, and a dash of improv to help you explore life’s messiness. Whether we’re diving into trauma, untangling family dynamics, or making sense of relationships, I’m here to walk alongside you—with compassion, real talk, and maybe the occasional awkward metaphor (they’re kind of my thing). Let’s figure it out together.

When I work with kids, I encourage them to communicate with their parents.
Are you feeling stressed? Do you wake up moody? Is your anger affecting your loved ones? Has your addiction isolated you? Is your relationship suffering? You can feel better and enjoy your life. Sometimes you just need a bit of guidance to find tools and techniques that help you. I shine a light on your toolbox so that you can find the right tools to take charge of your life.

Taking the initiative to seek therapy takes courage, and choosing the right therapist matters. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I work with clients who are motivated to understand themselves better, improve their emotional well-being, and create lasting change. I consider my approach eclectic and individualistic. Since I am primarily influenced by Solution Focused Brief Therapy, however, I believe in taking a strengths based approach that empowers the client to make changes at their own pace. I also pull from CBT, narrative therapy, person-centered, and other approaches.

I also involve parents by providing parent psycho-education and by having a parent consultation meeting every 5 weeks (included in the fee).
I am a Certified Play Therapy Professional. In the Child-Centered Play Therapy modality that I provide we believe that children are not cognitive/have abstract reasoning, but that they live in their emotions. It is through the toys/games, therapeutic responses, and the relationship with the therapist that they process the things they are struggling with in their lives. The average length of play therapy is 40 weeks. Children build emotional regulation, emotional vocabulary, self-esteem/confidence, among many other strengths. Through play therapy the child transforms internally, not externally. This is the key.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I focus on helping individuals identify and create healthy boundaries to assist in navigating and healing from life’s many challenges.
Boundaries provide us with a blue print that shows the expectations we set for ourselves and others. They are created based on our experiences, our trauma and our hope. They can either be healthy or unhealthy and regardless, they impact and influence our relationships with others as well as our relationship with the world around us.

I have been in practice since 2007 and have been featured on ABC, NBC, and KCAL as an expert psychologist. I work primarily with men who have hit “rock bottom” and would like help getting up. These men are often in crisis when we first meet. The issues I address are typically related to unhealthy sexual behaviors, infidelity, broken relationships, drugs/alcohol, dishonesty/lying, financial recklessness, and gambling. My therapy approach is a combination of psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and the 12-Step recovery model. I also share insight from my own painful but redemptive recovery journey.

Parents worry when they know something is wrong with their child.
In a way, life is a puzzle. With many pieces to choose from, we try to find those pieces that fit smoothly together. However, life becomes troubling when what we have chosen doesn't fit and the same problems seem to occur in one situation after another, making life seem even more frustrating and confusing. I am trained as both an artist and a psychotherapist and work in a collaborative style. After 20 years of experience, I bring a little humor and grace while learning to think creatively to move through the maze of life, it is an exciting possibility.

You've been struggling with sex or pornography addiction and it feels isolating, overwhelming, and shameful. But you don’t have to face it alone. I help individuals who feel stuck in compulsive sexual behaviors build clarity, accountability, and real, lasting change. Together, we will look beyond the behavior to understand what’s driving it (stress, trauma, attachment wounds, anxiety, or loneliness to name a few) and then develop practical tools to manage urges and rebuild integrity. My approach is structured, direct, and compassionate.
