I whole heartedly subscribe to the attachment theory that supports my preferred treatment modality,
emotionally focused
therapy (
EFT
).
I feel very humbled when people allow me into their most personal and sacred relationships. Whether it is your partner, spouse, child, or parent, my goal is to enhance the emotional connection in these crucial relationships. After all, despite today's technological advances, we have actually become more socially isolated. Any social scientist will attest to the threat that this poses to us, given that our relationships are the single greatest predictors of our happiness and wellbeing. Therefore, I strive to help people minimize their relationship fears, effectively communicate their needs, and help loved ones respond more compassionately.

My work with couples is based on the
EFT
model (Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples) in which I have advanced level training.
Therapy is a wonderful opportunity for personal growth. It is also helpful in overcoming common symptoms such as anxiety and depression, for improving relationships and for changing behaviors that may hinder quality of life. It is common to experience hesitation or ambivalence when starting therapy, much like many other new beginnings. I encourage you to try. People frequently report feeling better just by taking the first step of calling and making a first appointment. I view therapy as a collaborative process in which, together, we will explore, understand and conquer the obstacles you have encountered in your journey.

I work with couples utilizing
Emotionally Focused
Therapy (
EFT
) and with individuals utilizing
Emotionally Focused
Individual Therapy (EFIT).
EFT
has been demonstrated to be highly effective in helping couples change unhelpful patterns, repair trust, and create a more secure bond.
EFT
is based on the premise that what humans crave most is love and security. It would make sense that when we feel our love connection is threatened (often triggered by issues related to money, sex, parenting, in-laws, etc) we might either pursue our partner, desperately trying to “fix” the relationship, or defend ourselves by withdrawing.

Having lived around the world and drawing on the tools of
Emotionally Focused
Therapy, I know the universal languages of love and connection that we yearn for.
Do you and your partner feel like you've been living worlds apart? It's quiet, cold, and worst of all...lonely. Like you're not quite the same team that you once were. Barely talking, or when you do it's only to fight. You wonder, how did we ever get this way? How did the most important person in my life ...the person that once made me feel like HOME...how did they somehow turn into a total stranger sitting across the table from me? And you ask yourself...does this just happen to all couples over time?

I use an eclectic approach, employing several modalities (TRM, Bowen,
EFT
, PET-C, IFS, etc.
Here you will find a compassionate & authentic space in which you learn to more deeply connect with yourself (and others), so you can finally discover what's behind your typical “knee-jerk reactions” & why your “go to” coping strategies seem to cause more distress than the original problems! Then we'll make meaningful shifts to uncover new and healthier ways to approach life and relationships. Clients often come to me for help with a broad range of concerns, like: trauma, anxiety, depression, pain, existential malaise, creative blocks, infertility challenges, grief, & family/relationship drama and communication difficulties.

For couples I am trained in
EFT
(
Emotionally Focused
Therapy).
During this time of corona virus and shelter-in-place, it is common for people to struggle emotionally. Many of us feel distress with what is unknown; we are used to staying busy to avoid difficult feelings. Anxiety, depression, isolation, loneliness, relationship challenges, worries, fears, the inner critic, childhood memories, past failures, feeling helpless, among others, can all feel overwhelming. During this time our most vulnerable selves are exposed. What we often miss with a crisis, is the opportunity for growth that is possible. I am here to help you not only survive, but thrive.

I have training in
EFT
(Emotion Focused Therapy) which boasts a 75% success rate.
(Click on the "website" tab to watch my short 3-minute intro video!) My specialty is couples and individuals with relationship issues. Being in a relationship can be hard work and the stresses of career, children, in-laws, finances, chores, etc. don't make it any easier. Maybe you're feeling like you're having more conflict than love in your relationship and the communication is just not working. Or maybe you are fresh off of a breakup and wanting more clarity about what happened, or single wanting to work through some issues so you can be your best self for a future partner.

I incorporate evidence-based practices in my clinical work and I use Emotion Focus Therapy (
EFT
) especially for couples.
Our world today is full of challenges. Many stressors in life knock us off balance, and we feel overwhelmed, distressed, sometimes angry, sad and lonely. But you do not need to face the challenges alone. I am passionate to help people regain the balance by being more attuned to themselves - their identities, emotions, and physical needs. I work collaboratively with my clients to explore and identify ways to meet their goals, and provide tools and interventions as fitting. Most importantly, I walk alongside them in their journey to attain health and growth.

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
