Domestic Abuse Therapists in San Jose, CA
I specialize in working with individuals who have experienced intimate partner violence (IPV) as well as those who are justice-system involved.
I work with those who feel stuck or overwhelmed by the weight of trauma, anxiety, depression, but still hold onto the hope that life can feel different. They may be struggling in their relationships, caught in unhelpful patterns, or feeling disconnected from themselves and others. What they want most is to feel calmer, more confident, and more in control of their lives. Ultimately, their goal is to move beyond surviving and into a place where they can truly thrive, and my role is to support them on that journey with compassionate care.

Sometimes having compassion for ourselves is much harder than extending compassion to others. It’s difficult when we are dealing with thoughts that convince us we are broken or stuck, or when we are facing issues that seem larger than us, issues that appear beyond what our personal power can handle. Along with these thoughts of uncertainty come feelings such as anxiety, sadness, shame, and grief, all of which we struggle to avoid which can make living a valued existence appear difficult or impossible. Yet it is. You don’t need to go it alone. I can see that power within you, even if you are unable to see this in yourself.

I specialize working with individuals experiencing stress, anxious feelings, grief/ loss, and with survivors of intimate partner violence, male and female.
Have you ever experienced stress about making a decision/transition? Perhaps you are experiencing this right now. Oftentimes, we experience stress when making decisions due to our past or the unknown. As a Latina, I recognize that talking about our thoughts and feelings is not always safe or welcomed. Connecting to mental health counseling is still stigmatized within our community. We are often told “no pasa nada”, this thinking leads us to suppress our feelings which contributes to added stress. However, if we do not let go of stress or process past trauma, how can we live our best life right now?

You’re the strong one. The dependable one. The one who keeps everything — and everyone — together. But inside, you feel anxious, exhausted, and quietly overwhelmed.
You’ve spent years meeting expectations, honoring family values, and being who others needed you to be. Somewhere along the way, you lost your voice. You second-guess yourself. You feel guilty setting boundaries and often put your needs last.
I specialize in working with Latina immigrants and daughters of immigrants navigating generational trauma, cultural expectations, and anxiety. I also welcome women from diverse backgrounds facing similar challenges.

If you are dealing with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship conflicts, unhealthy communication, anger, and/or domestic violence, then it is possible that I will be able to help you with your own self-exploration.
Together we will explore the catalysts behind your negative or uncomfortable feelings and current struggles so that we can identify their root causes and work towards a resolution. It is important for us, as individuals, to face our past with openness so we can come to a place of forgiveness whether towards ourselves or others.

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.
When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.
What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.
How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
