We all experience negative emotions to varying degrees in our lives. However, anxiety and depression can become a problem when they get in the way of us being able to manage the important things in our life--our work, our studies, or our relationships. Parenting struggles, ADHD, and behavioral problems can have an immense impact on a family system, as well. If you or your
child
is struggling with feeling down or anxious, or having behavioral challenges, there are proven ways of learning to overcome these negative emotions while also learning a great deal about yourself, and what's important to you.

With over 20 years of almost exclusively working with SF Bay Area teens and their families (and a mother of two teenagers),-I have a solid understanding of the issues adolescents face, the struggles they encounter, and the mental health problems that are so very prevalent for them today. Depression and anxiety are at all all time high for teens and understanding the why isn't always so clear. My clients are facing a myriad of concerns - school refusal, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, substance use, social struggles, disordered eating, behavioral issues, just to name a few. One in thing is common is that they are all hurting,

I believe
children
and teens can learn, grow, and thrive when they have coping skills, feel empowered, and practice self-care. My goal is to encourage youth to learn who they are and how to advocate for their unique needs. I specialize in working with neurodiverse, gifted and twice-exceptional (2e) youth and their families. I encourage youth to use their strengths and interests in order to grow, heal, and cope. Building self-awareness, such as understanding their own sensory processing and asynchronous development, is an important part of my work with youth.

Parents worry when they know something is wrong with their
child
.
In a way, life is a puzzle. With many pieces to choose from, we try to find those pieces that fit smoothly together. However, life becomes troubling when what we have chosen doesn't fit and the same problems seem to occur in one situation after another, making life seem even more frustrating and confusing. I am trained as both an artist and a psychotherapist and work in a collaborative style. After 20 years of experience, I bring a little humor and grace while learning to think creatively to move through the maze of life, it is an exciting possibility.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
