I enjoy working with people of all backgrounds and I specialize in: depression,
anxiety
, trauma, grief/loss, and relational difficulties.
Therapy can be intimidating and unfamiliar, which is why I aim to create a safe space for my clients to express their emotions, experiences, and challenges. I believe a non-judgmental environment and a trusting relationship are fundamental in fostering the therapeutic alliance. In the therapy process, I invite my clients to engage in exploration to help them gain insight into their patterns of behavior. My approach encourages self-empowerment by allowing clients to be active participants in the change process and ultimately reach the personal growth they desire.

"Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" This question, asked by poet Mary Oliver, cuts to the core of what our work is about. Put more simply, what do you want? This is a safe place where that question can be asked multiple times and from multiple angles to help you get clear on the life you want to live. I specialize in working with high-achieving men and women going through life transitions, stress at work, and those who are dealing with issues around relationships, depression, and
anxiety
. I am also the host of the SuperPsyched Podcast and you can learn a lot about me there.

Together, we can look at how mental symptoms, such as depression,
anxiety
, and unhealthy relationships, may interfere with your performance, transitions, and success.
I am not accepting new clients. Hello! I am a certified coaching therapist and have been practicing since 2005. I have a Ph.D. and MA in clinical psychology and I have worked at universities, community counseling centers, and Kaiser Permanente. "What is coaching?" you might ask. Coaching is the use of positive psychology to focus on your strengths (rather than deficits) to help you reach your goals. Your goals can include being better able to communicate with your loved ones or coworkers, improve working relationships with management and/or employees, conflict management, and assertiveness training.

As a parent, it can be difficult to know what your child may need to thrive and realize their potential. Understanding their behaviors and figuring out what they need may not be clear. You may wonder what else you could possibly do to support your child. You may feel like you’ve done everything, and yet still your child has difficulties. You can see your child's struggles:
anxiety
/fearfulness, repetitive behaviors, uncooperativeness, outbursts, lack of friends, and risky behaviors. As parents, these behaviors can be concerning, frustrating, and worrying. You may worry that these behaviors could hinder your child’s future.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
