I have extensive experience in couples counseling, co-parenting, anger management , parenting and grief work.
Life is a challenge...even if you don't have any major problems. When you experience one or more additional stressors, such as relationship issues with a child/partner, challenges with blending families, job, financial, health, mood, legal, or ex-partner issues, you might find yourself struggling to keep your sanity at times or realize that you are not living up to your potential. If you wish to feel more full-filled emotionally, physically, mentally, professionally, spiritually and/or in your relationships, I can help you explore which changes could be helpful to reach that goal or what is causing you to stay stuck and in pain.

If you are struggling with relationships, codependency or anger , let's talk. Codependent behaviors like people pleasing, low self-esteem and giving too much create unhealthy, one-sided relationships. Healing from codependent relationships starts with you, not getting others to change. Maybe you're already in recovery but need more individualized help. Anger management is another area. Whether your explode or stuff your anger , you can learn how to handle emotions in healthy way. Relationships and self-esteem improve when you have the skills it takes to take care of yourself and communicate effectively. You're not alone!

Anger , shame, anxiety, depression, and perfectionism are emotions and traits that can be caused by trauma. Unresolved trauma can negatively affect our current relationships and family dynamics. My goal as a therapist is to collaborate with you in order to manage trauma-related symptoms and reach a more meaningful state. I utilize a client-centered approach in order to create a safe space for my clients to process unresolved feelings/reactions. Forming a meaningful connection allows us to create a space that welcomes vulnerability, and the therapeutic relationship is just as important as the therapeutic modality.

Childhood trauma can cripple us, it creates overpowering ‘intense’ emotions such as anxiety, depression, and anger when left unattended which begins to create physical symptoms to defend our bodies from the internal wounds. Has there ever been a time in your life where you have experienced this reaction? Are you experiencing these feelings based on current or past trauma from childhood, early teens, adolescence, adulthood, or as a senior? I aim to utilize a variety of actionable techniques to help reduce trauma related symptoms and make lasting changes in life.

Therapy is a safe place to be yourself. I work with adults, teens, and couples on learning how to identify their feelings and needs and how to get those needs met. The therapeutic relationship is one aspect of therapy that will help you in learning about yourself, will allow you to feel safe enough to face your inner fears and uncertainties, and help you to grow into the person you want to be. If you are dealing with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship conflicts, unhealthy communication, anger , and/or domestic violence, then it is possible that I will be able to help you with your own self-exploration.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
