I draw from many different modalities, the main ones being IFS and ACT therapy.
You've been working so hard to help everyone else... but it's so hard to do the same for yourself. Overloaded by responsibilities, guilt, overwhelm, stress, and anxiety; instead of feeling better, you doomscroll every single day. You don't even feel like yourself anymore. It's been hard to figure out on your own, but ideally you'd like to find your confidence again. This is especially difficult when you grew up like I did, a 2nd gen millennial immigrant from an Asian-American family. With conflicting values from our cultures and experience growing up in the U.S., we can feel especially torn and stuck.

So while I, as a therapist, counselor and clinician, may sometimes gravitate toward a number of theories and modalities such as Person-Centered, CBT, DBT and ACT, rather than shoehorn a client into a particular type of therapy, I do just the opposite.
I strive to consider approaches from the above or draw from additional evidence-based theories and modalities, or find a customized solution, to ultimately meet you, exactly where you are, at this moment.

I integrate a variety of evidence-based practices such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to meet your specific needs.
You may have found that due to some recent life circumstance, you are feeling stressed, anxious, lonely, overwhelmed, or even ashamed. These are natural, human emotions, which can arise from a host of reasons including fertility challenges, reproductive loss, adjusting to parenthood, work-related stress, starting college, or relationship issues. It can feel isolating, and you deserve to be seen and understood. The good news is you don’t have to go through it alone, and you were never meant to.

I believe you are the ultimate expert in this and view my role as a collaborative ally, helping you identify your passions and personal values, and helping you build that path toward living a life worth living with increased acceptance of self and mindfulness-based awareness.
Sometimes having compassion for ourselves is much harder than extending compassion to others. It’s difficult when we are dealing with thoughts that convince us we are broken or stuck, or when we are facing issues that seem larger than us, issues that appear beyond what our personal power can handle. Along with these thoughts of uncertainty come feelings such as anxiety, sadness, shame, and grief, all of which we struggle to avoid. This can make living a valued existence appear difficult or impossible. Yet it is. You don’t need to go it alone. I can see that power within you, even if you are unable to see this in yourself.

While my approach is eclectic, I often incorporate Cognitive-Behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, and Gottman frameworks and interventions.
As you consider working with a therapist, you are taking a step towards improving your life, examining what needs to be changed and building upon what is already working. Life can get better and you have the power to change it. During difficult times, it is important to either develop healthy support systems or utilize the ones that we already have. Seeking therapy is one piece of a healthy support system. You are acknowledging that some aspects of your life may not be going well and need to be changed. Therapy can help put life in perspective.

TEAM-CBT Certified Therapist and Trainer, Level 4: ACT; Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction MBSR; Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Life can be hard, whether dealing with unexpected setbacks, longstanding problems, or just working hard to build a life of purpose and meaning. Some clients are dealing with stress, grief, and loss. Some clients are stressed by balancing a life that could best be described as “All Good Things, Just Too Many.” I believe our work is about more than treating dis-ease. It is about living fully, with ease, vitality, and wellness. Sometimes this starts with learning to deal with hard thoughts and feelings that can get in the way. It always involves getting clear about who you want to be and what matters most.

Trained in CBT, ACT, Psychodynamic, EMDR, Mindfulness& Attachment Theory.
You crush it at work! But you feel like a total failure in your relationships. Exhaustion and hopelessness permeate your existence like a dark fog. Caffeine and self-propulsion have become your two best friends. Relationships should be fulfilling, right? Then why do you feel so numb, disengaged, and often embarrassed by your reactions to others? Sure, you hit your numbers at work. But your reward is dragging yourself home to a lonely, sexless marriage. Another conflict ensues. Great. Your wife’s judgmental stare leaves you feeling ashamed and like you’re 5 years old again. Let’s face it – you haven’t felt loved in years.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
