In our work together we would examine what emotions are arising for you as a parent , learn how to improve the connection with your child, and encourage your child to cooperate by setting limits with empathy and respect.
Finding the right therapist to work with is an important decision. The therapist's credentials and specialties are factors to consider, but perhaps the most important factor is "do I feel a connection with this person and can I talk openly with her about the challenges I'm facing?" It is an honor and a privilege to support you in your journey. I love helping people examine their lives, understand themselves better, and navigate their relationships more skillfully. My style as a therapist is pragmatic and I apply various approaches based on your individual needs.

Major life transitions or role changes can be a time of tremendous growth while also being stressful, anxiety producing and disruptive. Becoming a parent or losing a parent , getting married or divorced, or changing positions at work are examples of changes that can disrupt our sense of self which can then tip other relationships off balance.

I have experience working with anxiety, depression, ADHD, parenting challenges, couples, emotional dysregulation and life transitions.
Finding the right therapist is not an easy task, especially when you are in a vulnerable spot in your life. You might have some hesitations about opening up to a person you don't know. Take the time to explore different options and make sure that you land with a person that feels safe for you. Because when there is safety- there is healing. My hope for my clients is that they feel seen, heard, and understood, so they can start making sense of what's not working for them, and work with me on how they want their life to look like. It's never easy! but it's very rewarding.

Have you been feeling overwhelmed, anxious or fearful lately? Are you feeling isolated, disconnected or burnt out? These can feel like chaotic times and many people are needing increased emotional support. If you or your partner are expecting a baby or are a new parent , life can feel especially unmanageable. You may be worried about staying safe and healthy, attending doctor appointments alone or not receiving as much social support after baby has arrived. Therapy can be a safe, non-judgemental space to reflect and process these complex emotions.

I love working with teens and children offering parent coaching.
I'm not in the business of instigating change. I am in the delicate and complex work of empowering it. Because I believe you have the wisdom to bring about change. Because change is your work and your choice; my role is to set the stage, empty it, illuminate what stands in the way and explore with you the possibilities for change. Ultimately you decide. The fact that you're here already ensures it. My job is to notice your process, reflect and honor it. In this space, I have seen amazing change happen.

We all experience negative emotions to varying degrees in our lives. However, anxiety and depression can become a problem when they get in the way of us being able to manage the important things in our life--our work, our studies, or our relationships. Parenting struggles, ADHD, and behavioral problems can have an immense impact on a family system, as well. If you or your child is struggling with feeling down or anxious, or having behavioral challenges, there are proven ways of learning to overcome these negative emotions while also learning a great deal about yourself, and what's important to you.

Parenting is really tough! When we have a child who is struggling we often times don't know where to turn.
With over 20 years of almost exclusively working with SF Bay Area teens and their families (and a mother of two teenagers),-I have a solid understanding of the issues adolescents face, the struggles they encounter, and the mental health problems that are so very prevalent for them today. Depression and anxiety are at all all time high for teens and understanding the why isn't always so clear. My clients are facing a myriad of concerns - school refusal, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, substance use, social struggles, disordered eating, behavioral issues, just to name a few. One in thing is common is that they are all hurting,

I welcome LGBT patients and families, and people struggling with the challenges of parenting .
Looking for some relief from the trouble life has sent your way? Talking with an experienced and highly respected MFT like me could be very helpful. I am good at listening to help folks who are depressed, anxious, worried, confused, guilty, or just overwhelmed by circumstances. I work with adults and couples. Many of my patients are therapists themselves, which I take as a big vote of trust and confidence. I think you will find me to be sensitive, compassionate, intelligent, and full of conviction about how therapy can make lives better.

The issues I have worked with deeply include relationship struggles, parenting , grief, addiction, Anxiety, Depression, Panic Disorder, and spiritual crises, and co-occurring disorders.
Having a good relationship with oneself is a process and a practice, and can be cultivated through the therapeutic process. Every relationship is dependent on how we talk to ourselves, and this inner conversation is what therapy can shift. If you have the willingness, huge transformation is possible. I am in this field to help people sort out a way through and beyond unnecessary suffering, and towards deep peace with themselves and others. I have successfully treated high-functioning CEOs as well as people traumatized, addicted, and broke. Being human is challenging, and with the right support, beautiful. Call. I can help!

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
