Do you struggle with feelings of anxiety, depression, guilt or low self-esteem? Do you find yourself avoiding social engagements or so preoccupied with excessive worrying? Finding ways to navigate these difficult feelings can help you get back on track. I use a psychodynamic approach and CBT that focuses on uncovering patterns of behavior and ways of relating to ourselves and others that are often outside of our awareness. You get shaky, sweaty, and your mind starts racing. You feel like other people can see, and wonder what is wrong with you. And the worst part? It just keeps getting worse. It is getting more intense, and happening more often. It feels like you barely get through the day, and feel exhausted. You fall into bed, and then there you are.... wired and tired. Your head is spinning all night and once you fall asleep your alarm goes off and you have to do it all again the next day. It feels like every decision is impossible. You talk it all out, think you've got a plan about work, school, or your
relationship
and then it fails.

Looking for some relief from the trouble life has sent your way? Talking with an experienced and highly respected MFT like me could be very helpful. I am good at listening to help folks who are depressed, anxious, worried, confused, guilty, or just overwhelmed by circumstances. I work with adults and
couples
. Many of my patients are therapists themselves, which I take as a big vote of trust and confidence. I think you will find me to be sensitive, compassionate, intelligent, and full of conviction about how therapy can make lives better.

I work with all age groups, but I have a real passion for working with
couples
and families.
I know that we are living in unique and challenging times. It can sometimes be difficult to navigate the life stressors that come our way, especially when those stressors lead to disruptions in our ability to cope and function the way we wish to. I understand the importance we place on developing and maintaining strong and supportive interpersonal relationships with our families, our children, our partners, and our communities. I also am a strong believer in the need to have a therapist who can listen, support, and offer you real tools to manage stressors and mental health issues.

Traumatic experiences,
relationship
attachment woundings, and the general pressure to conform to social norms during our younger years, can cause our being to create some truly magnificent coping strategies to remain standing. Unfortunately these strategies can be digested and integrated into our identity long after they've stopped serving their purpose. I am passionate about supporting people reconnect with their true nature, by exploring parts work and somatic experiencing. Our past does not define us, and this work makes it possible to access the inspired, motivated, wisdom that exists in abundance underneath our conditioning.

The therapeutic
relationship
is the most important element in the success of therapy.
From the first phone call to the last session I want you to feel heard, seen and safe. Reaching out when you need support is a very vulnerable step. And a brave one. You are worth it and won't be alone during your journey of growth and healing. I work from a compassionate and nonjudgmental place. I look at each person in a holistic way which means I attend to the emotional, mental and physical energy that is brought into each session as well as your own unique life experiences. Through my own experience with therapy I know how processing self-defeating behaviors and beliefs can be truly life-changing. There is always hope.

I offer clients a genuine and compassionate
relationship
and 30 yrs of experience to facilitate their emotional growth, insight and change.
Despite our evolutionary progress the essence of being human hasn’t changed. We require acceptance, understanding, compassion, love and connection. We struggle with our fears, hopes, dreams, and relationships. These are the common issues that bring people into therapy. The pathway to healing can be achieved in many ways. Each person has his/her own unique perception and emotional world and my first task is to understand yours. Together we can create your path to self acceptance, strength and resilience. Your first step is to accept responsibility, then to identify the critical components of your individuality and identity.

By centering your needs in the therapeutic
relationship
, in time we can create a non-judgemental and safe space for positive changes.
Are you struggling with anxiety and trauma and turning towards unhealthy coping mechanisms in an attempt to manage your emotions? Now is a trying time for almost everyone, and if you have a trauma background what's coming up in the current environment may be reminiscent of the stress, isolation, and fear-induced by early childhood experiences. You don't have to handle this alone, and with clinically tested techniques to regulate the mind and body, it's possible to shift from a place of disempowerment to strength.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
