Can you imagine having a relationship that's filled with more peace and joy than anxiety and hurt? What would it feel like to be met with acceptance and love when you express yourself? The result might be that you rediscover love and safety, and can confidently say, “we can handle anything that comes up!" I'd love to help you get there.
Do you often feel reactive to something your partner does or says? Are misunderstandings that lead to arguing and hurt feelings common in your relationship? Do you struggle to feel connected to your partner on a deep level, or when you do it’s short-lived? Maybe it seems if only they could see things from your point of view, you'd understand each other and the arguing would stop. You still love each other, but it’s frustrating and exhausting when you feel like you’ve tried everything and you're still stuck in the same cycles. You don’t want to be living parallel lives, but sometimes arguing or disconnecting is the only option.

M-CBT and ACT are powerful training programs to clarify your goals, build your internal motivation and learn skills to help you think and act more intentionally.
Life can be hard, whether dealing with unexpected setbacks, longstanding problems, or just working hard to build a life of purpose and meaning. Some clients are dealing with stress, grief, and loss. Some clients are stressed by balancing a life that could best be described as “All Good Things, Just Too Many.” I believe our work is about more than treating dis-ease. It is about living fully, with ease, vitality, and wellness. Sometimes this starts with learning to deal with hard thoughts and feelings that can get in the way. It always involves getting clear about who you want to be and what matters most.

I employ an integrative approach to treatment based on the needs of the individual, with a primary focus of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
Deciding to seek help for yourself or a loved one takes courage and strength. I believe that each individual has the capacity to grow and change throughout the life span. My training and experience can assist you in recognizing patterns that may no longer be serving you, and in clarifying your values. As you learn what values are important to you, these values can serve as a compass no matter how difficult life becomes. I am interested in working with people who are open to deep inquiry, and understanding more about themselves and the way that they are navigating life.

My approach to therapy draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT ), Mindfulness, Attachment Theory, and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
People generally seek therapy when something in their life isn’t the way they want it to be, whether it be uncomfortable feelings, difficult relationships, challenging transitions, problematic behaviors, etc.. Our task is a process of understanding the factors that have led to this place (i.e. early relationships, impactful experiences, traumas; whatever factors contribute to how one sees themselves), which then allows for looking clearly at the present, and looking intentionally towards the future, in identifying what is most important for you in your life, connecting with your authentic values, and aligning with those values.

I use an integrative approach that is based on the individual needs of the people in front of me and begins with compassion and empathy. I believe forming a strong therapeutic relationship is key for therapy to be successful. Rooted in person-centered therapy, I use empathy, respect, humor, and curiosity to guide treatment. From there, I weave various evidenced based practices together like Solution-Focused, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, attachment theory and mindfulness strategies to challenge, empower, build insight and guide you to healthier ways of managing life.

I pay special attention to creating a trusting and safe environment to help my clients build insights and skills to learn new ways to manage emotional distress and gain acceptance .
Change is uncertain and stressful as it is. Our bodies and emotions may respond in a way that is overwhelming and confusing. I can imagine how daunting, isolating, and stuck one may feel. I hope to help you understand what your emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and body are trying to communicate to you. You can learn more adaptive ways of understanding and cope with your circumstances. With practice, it is relieving to reclaim your bandwidth and time to rest and pursue meaningful goals.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
