Are you struggling with distressing symptoms of anxiety and depression that keep you from doing the things you want to do? Do things that seem simple trigger strong emotional reactions and cause you to lose out on the rewarding and enjoyable things in life? Is fear keeping you from going certain places, doing certain things or interacting with certain people? Have you experienced trauma? My philosophy for therapy includes an individualized approach based on your unique strengths, needs and goals. My approach is holistic, integrating symptom reduction, physical health, relationships, and spiritual growth.

I draw from Expressive Arts, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Psychodynamic Theory to best support emotional growth and healing for each individual client.
I am here to listen to you. I work with children, teens, and adults to support exploration of difficult issues and life changes. Often what brings someone to seek counseling, either for themselves or for their child, is being faced with a challenge they need support navigating and resolving. This issue may result from an atypical experience or be more pervasive, and can bring about feelings of anger, depression, anxiety, low self-worth, or communication issues. Taking the risk to ask for help is the first step on the road toward healing and growth.

I use psychodynamic approach to address deeper issues.
I believe being in an equilibrium state is one of the keys to maintain a healthy well being, however, we often face many challenges that could easily lead to a disequilibrium. My role as a therapist is to work with you collaboratively in order to address your needs, to guide you in understanding how your past experiences shape your present self; to help you in identifying your thought patterns and emotions that affect your behaviors; and to coach you so that you are equipped when dealing with different life challenges. By working as a team, you will eventually be able to restore the balance and maintain a healthy well being.

Hello, I am here to help you understand yourself better and to relieve the pain that comes when relationships are struggling. We often don't know what the pain is about or what causes us to behave the way we do. I can help you with that. Either individually, or with your loved one, I want to work with you to help you build a satisfying, joyful relationship. My theoretical orientation is psychoanalytic and psychodynamic . Simply put, I help you to know your thoughts and feelings that govern your actions so that you are able to enjoy satisfying, honest relationships.

I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques, Dialectical Behavioral skills, and Solution-Focused approaches within a broader Psychodynamic and Family Systems framework.
Many people experience anxiety or sadness at some point in their life. Sometimes these feelings are related to a big change, a new stressor, or a longstanding challenge that has left you feeling overwhelmed and stuck. Regardless of what's going on in your life, my goal is to help you better confront, cope with, and recover from difficulties, so that you can live a more fulfilling life. I understand that the idea of therapy can seem intimidating. I see your decision to engage in treatment as a true testament to your strength.

Treatments I provide include CBT, motivational interviewing, psychodynamic therapies, and more.
Do you feel worried, stuck, or overwhelmed much of the time? Perhaps anxiety or other problems keep you from leaving home, interacting with others, or doing activities you enjoy. Many of my clients deal with addiction problems, past trauma, depression, low self-esteem, or related issues. A lack of confidence can make it difficult to feel safe in the world. I help people get to the bottom of what’s going on. Whether you’re struggling with a mental health issue, working through a trauma or loss, or aren’t sure what’s happening, I can help. You can feel more hopeful, less anxious, and more excited about living again.

People do not exist in a vacuum. The person you are today is a collage of various influences and experiences. These influences range from relationships with family and friends, community, religion, spiritual beliefs, socioeconomic backgrounds, education, and the culture in which you were raised. What brought you in today does not solely define you and it may not be the root of your pain. Through therapy, we have the potential to move beneath the surface and go deeper into the roots of your struggles to help you develop a greater understanding of what troubles you.

As a therapist, I look for the basic goodness of human beings and try to bring clients having locus of control in their lives and share perspectives leading clients to feel liberated so they find the meaning of life; fulfillment and happiness. This takes practice, as our minds naturally scan for the negative, but if we try, we can almost always find something good about you and others which will lead us to heal and peace and may bring harmony and joy to our life. Personally, I enjoy reading books regarding history and philosophy. I have a strong passion for helping children and adults, including parenting issues.

"You are not broken. You are breaking through." Do you feel like no one understands you or can truly help you the way you need? There are times that our perceptions of life situations differs from those around us, causing us to feel unheard or unsupported. These are the times we need support the most. My passion for helping others led me to become a therapist. I believe that every individual has magnificent inner resources that need support in coming to light. My goal as your therapist is to make you feel empowered to create the best life for yourself.

Maybe you've been stuck and unable to see your way forward, or you feel a burden you can't quite relieve yourself of. Often times we can find our way with the support of family or friends. But sometimes we need the help of a certified professional. I view therapy through the lens of self compassion, understanding and collaboration. It is a moving dialogue that shapes healing and being. The development of a therapeutic relationship and interventions are individualized because mental health treatment is more than treating symptoms and a diagnosis.

I grew up witnessing the effects of social injustice, conflict and violence on individuals and communities that simply strive for peace and belonging. I have spent decades of my life walking alongside survivors whose basic rights were stripped and who sought to identify a path towards healing and belonging. My deep understanding of loss and pain has empowered me to develop compassion and empathy towards survivors, and my knowledge and experience in the helping profession has instilled in me the passion to learn and connect. My approach is unique in that it offers a compassionate, holistic and effective model meeting survivor

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
