I have gained extensive experience working with
women
in transition and value/identity development as well as adolescents and their families.
Currently accepting new clients. How are you doing? Really, how are you doing? Are you feeling balanced, satisfied in your relationships, and have an overall sense of well being? You might answer "I'm fine" sometimes and at other times you might feel sad, overwhelmed and have anxiety about the future. I believe I can help you. Together we will work to overcome roadblocks, heal old wounds and conquer the limitations that have kept you from reaching your potential - personally, relationally and professionally.

While I have had a general practice for over 25 years, eating disorders are of special interest to me, particularly the "binge-purge" cycle that plagues so many
women
obsessed with being thin.
Do you feel controlled by food, rather than in control of it ? Are you obsessed with eating, dieting or bingeing? Does your scale determine your mood? Is your life strongly impacted by your weight? Life doesn't have to be a weight struggle.
Learn the difference between head and body hunger. Decipher what your obsessive behavior is really saying. Acquire physical, mental and emotional balance.
Whether it is eating, drinking, anger, spending, controlling, an addiction is a mal-adaptive attempt at managing feelings and escaping discomfort.

I specialize in stepfamilies (stepcouples and stepmoms); as a veteran stepmom, I offer relatable insight and empathy to
women
experiencing the challenges of this role.
Daily life brings plenty of stresses, but most of us manage to function pretty well in spite of them. Sometimes, however, the stresses become more than we can handle, making us feel nervous, sad or angry. We might argue more with loved ones, have trouble sleeping or difficulty concentrating. Physical problems might show up like headaches or stomach complaints. If all this weren't enough, we might self-medicate by doing things like over-eating, excessive drinking or shopping. While these activities are actually attempts to self-comfort, a more productive way to gain relief when life gets out of control is to seek therapy.

Isn't it time to find a solution rather than just temporary relief? I help men and
women
who experience anxiety, depression, and excessive worry or low self-esteem.
IN-PERSON and VIRTUAL appointments available. It’s Monday at 6:05 am. Your alarm goes off, and the worrying begins. You feel tired. Before leaving your bed, you overthink your day at work, your interactions with your partner, the kids, and your feelings of never being enough. It’s difficult to even try to change your thoughts. You find yourself skipping your previously planned workout, heading straight for coffee, and rushing to get ready for work. The negative thoughts continue throughout your day. At 5 pm, you rush home to start the evening routine. And when it’s time for bed, you can't sleep...

I specialize in working with
women
who are insightful, curious, and open to personal growth - from teens struggling with the challenges of school, family, and relationships; to young
women
coping with career challenges and major life transitions; to
women
facing later-in-life issues around identity and aging.
Issues stemming from anxiety, stress, depression, and trauma can get in our way of living a satisfying, fulfilling life. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We all have within us the capacity to cope with, and even grow from, hardships and challenges. With my guidance we will explore and process the underlying fears, unmet needs, and negative beliefs that keep you “stuck”. We will cultivate your inner strengths to help you become healthier, more resilient, and enjoy more positivity in your life and your relationships with others.

Are you a
woman
whose life looks “good” from the outside, and yet it still feels like something is missing? You’ve accomplished a lot in life, but don’t feel the sense of fulfillment you expected. A big life change—maybe a breakup, new job, new marriage, change in family dynamic, or move—has highlighted the fact that you’re still not as happy or content as you want to be. Something is telling you that you need to make a shift (even if you’re not quite sure what it is). You want to gain deeper insight into yourself & your past experiences, and you’re ready to change your “default setting” and start creating new patterns in your life.

I am particularly drawn to those going through any type of life transition and who want deeper personal relationships with God, themselves, and others.

I work with
WOMEN
and ATHLETEs who are struggling with overwhelming ANXIETY. Sometimes this includes issues with relationships, spirituality, trauma and PTSD, self esteem, codependency, life transitions, eating issues, sports performance, and grief. You may be feeling not good enough, stuck in a toxic relationship, uncomfortable asking for help, scared of conflict, intimidated, taken advantage of. You can achieve, tough it out, and make other people happy, but aren’t really happy yourself.

"You are not broken. You are breaking through." Do you feel like no one understands you or can truly help you the way you need? There are times that our perceptions of life situations differs from those around us, causing us to feel unheard or unsupported. These are the times we need support the most. My passion for helping others led me to become a therapist. I believe that every individual has magnificent inner resources that need support in coming to light. My goal as your therapist is to make you feel empowered to create the best life for yourself.

NOW accepting NEW Telehealth clients. KMeekTherapy.com My ideal client is an adult/couple that has a desire to learn and grow, is not afraid to get into the tough stuff, and appreciates when I am real with them/challenge their thinking in order to support growth and a new perspective. I value it when a client is honest about what is helpful/not as I believe we are on this journey together. My areas of focus include depression, relationship challenges, LGBTQIA and sexuality, and addiction although we may address much more based on what you bring to the session and have as a goal.

I work with clients who struggle to find happiness in their lives because they feel burdened by things that are out of their control. I enjoy helping clients find fulfillment no matter where they are in life. I hope to help my clients improve their self-esteem, reduce their stress levels, increase their understanding of themselves, and learn valuable stress management tools they can use outside of the therapy room.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
