My specialties are in Insomnia and Sleep disorders, PTSD and acute trauma, and gastrointestinal health.
You may be emotionally, physically, or spiritually in a space in your life that you might describe as challenging, confusing, and/or uncontrollable. There might be different struggles, that somehow reflect a similar underlying process. Perhaps, one that involves fear, avoidance, escaping, 'trying so hard', and eventually feeling helpless. Though our struggles may differ on the exterior, the underlying process is what often reflects our perspectives and emotional health. Addressing vs resisting our challenges can deepen our confidence in our ability to work through them. Thus, creating the space for a calm and grounded experience.

Currently, I work with clients who are having difficulty managing thoughts of anxiety, and feelings of depression, or find themselves with challenges associated with sleep , stress, and burnout.
I have worked in community mental health for the past 7 years and in private practice for the last 2 years. I have found the best approach to therapy is with an open, nonjudgmental perspective, as each individual's life stressors impact them in a unique way. My goal is to build a trusting relationship and get to know my clients first, then work together to determine what might be getting in the way of their goals and create a success plan. I am a strong believer that our mind and body are intricately connected, so I focus on how our bodies respond just as equally to how our minds affect the way we think, feel, and behave.

As a health psychologist, I specialize in the treatment of insomnia , chronic pain, stress/anxiety, and depression.
When it comes to our emotional health, many of us suffer in silence until things have become unmanageable. Unfortunately as children, we don't often get the emotional education that we feel we need; many of us are not taught how to notice, label, or effectively express our emotions. Therapy is a process in which you begin to explore your old patterns and habits, discern those that are no longer serving you, while equipping yourself with more helpful coping skills to add to your toolbox.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
