I'm certified in the first-line treatment for insomnia, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), which I combine with psychodynamic therapy to process unconscious patterns that get in the way of sleep and other relationship issues.
Are you having the same fight with your partner over and over? Are you unsure if you can heal from past wounds in your relationship? Are you feeling distant, like you don’t know each other anymore? Couples therapy may help. I’m Level 3 trained in the Gottman Method for couples and have four years of institutional psychoanalytic training, building on my previous career as an anthropologist (PhD) working with LGBTQ+, Asian, and Asian American communities.

I am passionate about helping people improve their sleep.
My work is based in Behavioral Sleep Medicine (BSM). This non-medication approach uses brief, evidence-based methods to treat various sleep disorders and sleep disturbances (e.g., insomnia, hypersomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, nightmares, PAP adjustment, etc) by focusing on unhelpful thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that can contribute to sleep concerns.

If you’re feeling stressed, tired, or unlike yourself lately — especially if sleep has been off — you’re not alone.
I use a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Solution-Focused strategies. In simple terms, this means we’ll look at: - the thoughts and behaviors that disrupt sleep and well-being - deeper emotional patterns that may be driving stress or reactivity - practical steps you can take right away to feel more grounded.

Somatic Experiencing (SE) takes healing to a deeper level. Combined with 'top-down' approaches, SE helps identify strengths and intentions beneath painful survival patterns. Shame, fear and anger transform into vital life energy. Surviving becomes thriving. As a private practice psychotherapist based in SF & Marin for several years, I was fortunate to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. During the pandemic, my practice shifted to primarily virtual.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
