Everyone wants to feel that they are good enough. The reality though, is that most of us struggle to feel that we are acceptable and lovable just as we are. If you resonate with this, you're not alone. These beliefs tend to operate in the background of your mind, subconsciously influencing your self-esteem, limiting the way you show up in relationships, work and leisure, and creating painful cycles of depression and anxiety. Therapy with me is a safe space to challenge patterns, expand limiting beliefs, heal your inner child, and develop a wise, confident, and secure authentic self to guide you through the ups and downs of life.

You: look great on paper, but deep down you're struggling and ashamed to admit it - especially when others have it so much worse. You're sensitive, idealistic, and creative. You're aware of your potential and people reflect it back to you, but you're having trouble finding traction. You're not connecting with your work the way you want to, and your co-working relationships are "fine," but not satisfying in the way you'd like them to be. It feels like something's missing, but you don't know what and you don't know where to find it. Behind the mask, you feel scared, sad, lonely, insecure, anxious, depressed and may be losing hope.

Tired of not living fully. Learn tools to be more engaged and present with your life and the people in it. One such tool is mindfulness. Mindfulness is a way of directing your attention away from habitual thoughts(lists, judgements, negative self talk)and toward experiencing the present(where your life is actually being lived). I believe in the power of this work. Depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, difficult relationships and addictions can be products of molding to others' ideas of who you "should" be. I will work with you to uncover who you want to be.

If you are struggling to make a change that is long overdue, I can help explore what is keeping you stuck. Your wellbeing, self-esteem and even health would benefit, but for some unseen reasons, your intellect and even genuine desire to change haven't been "enough". Maybe you’ve endured an obvious trauma, or maybe your anxiety and pain are entangled with an identity, addiction or past hurt you just can't seem to reckon with. Some of us are predisposed to various factors that lead to addictions: to relationship patterns, substances and behaviors. I can help you find the space to reframe ideas and beliefs that may be keeping you back.

Therapy is about uncovering patterns that restrict emotions, thoughts, experience, and behavior. I see a variety of clients, from tech leaders to stay at home parents. The client feedback I receive is that I am especially helpful at relationships, career related issues, grief and loss, perfectionism, and self esteem. I have been in private practice for 20 years, and I am the onsite therapist at Google's SF Wellness Center, where clients have specifically sought me out. Clients find me easy to connect with, and appreciate my warmth, sense of humor, and ability to dissect issues. Together, we will work deeply in a safe environment.

Do you feel like you aren't good enough? Are you sensitive to being hurt in social situations? Do you struggle with issues of self esteem or self worth? If these are common themes for you or in your relationships, then perhaps we might work well together. I center my work around self compassion. I believe that only from a place of self kindness can we feel grounded within ourselves enough to develop a compassionate relationship with others around us. I use mindfulness and somatic body oriented work in order to help us connect deeper with our self, our inner knowing and to be able to cultivate trust with ourselves.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
