Psychosis Therapists in San Francisco, CA
My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that mental health should be understood within the context of a person’s life, never condescending or one-size-fits-all, and ideally, with a sense of lightness and even humor. I recognize that while mental illness can feel like an overwhelming challenge at times, it often coexists with unique qualities and strengths that can deepen a person’s understanding of themselves and the world around them. Our work is rooted in the belief that mental health is a deeply personal and cultural experience, shaped by our individual histories, identities, and the social environments we navigate.

Many of my clients have come with these types of problems. Through our work together we can address issues like these and so many more. Rogerian therapist with experience in severe depression/anxiety/bipolar, psychosis, DID, play therapy, life transitions and addictions.
Hi! I'm Sophie and I specialize in depression, trauma, family and attachment issues, anxiety, bipolar and addictions.I'm very much looking forward to meeting you.
An ideal client is someone who shows up. Not even in the way of making every appointment (life happens) but takes the first step toward growth and self development. An ideal client is not a diagnosis or impairment in functioning but anyone who wants to live better and understand themselves more within our weird and scary world. I encourage my clients to advocate for what is working and name what is not by checking in so our time together is the most supportive possible.

As we embark on this journey together, I aspire to provide you with my full attention and engagement, allowing you to experience the benefits of gentle, generous focus. With nearly a decade of experience working with non-ordinary states of consciousness (e.g. psychotic, manic, dissociative, ecstatic, etc.), I'm confident that I can help you manage most anything you're experiencing. You will find our time together has depth due to my background in Jungian theory; yet the somatic (embodied) and trauma-informed approach underlying everything we focus your curious attention on will remain rooted in your felt-sense of the present moment.

My clients often know something is wrong but can't quite name it, or can name it and still can't traverse it. They're thoughtful, emotional, self-aware, sometimes exhausted by their own self-awareness. I work with adults navigating depression, from low-grade and chronic to acute and destabilizing.
I work with people whose relationship to technology, gaming, social media, the particular gravity of the digital world, has quietly reorganized their life in ways they didn't choose. I work with people who have had profound experiences, psychedelic or otherwise, that hatched something and left them desiring therapy.

My ideal client is someone coping with anything from daily stressors to severe mental illness—feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, or simply stuck. They may be navigating complex relationships, the aftereffects of trauma, or struggling with symptoms that disrupt their sense of self. Some may have tried therapy before; others are seeking a fresh, compassionate approach. What they share is a hope for change, a desire for clarity, and the drive to find new ways forward—whether that's healing, understanding themselves, or just feeling “okay” again.

I enjoy working with clients from all backgrounds and walks of life. I honor my clients as unique individuals, with unique reasons for seeking therapy. Some clients may desire a short-term, solution-focused approach to therapy, where they can find relief from distressing situations and quickly move on with their lives. Others may prefer a less structured approach, where they can explore and gain clarity on their values so that they can live more fulfilling lives. Some may not have a clear reason for seeking therapy, but intuitively know that it will benefit them in some way—that too is most certainly welcomed.

I’ve provided therapy to clients experiencing depression, anxiety, substance use, PTSD, mental health crises, and schizophrenia among others.
Anxiety and depression are common. There is no shame in feeling this way. In your day-to-day life, you have to balance work, money, relationships, your dreams, your health, sleep etc. It would make anyone not feel their best. Talking about the difficult things in your life with a licensed clinician who listens, empathizes, and challenges is often the thing you need to get you back on the right path or to find a new one.

I have a relaxed approach that is spiced with humor and education. My goal is to have a comfortable and creative environment to help you make the changes you want to see. I'm big on education and will likely push books, articles, and videos on you; or at least summarize to the best of my ability. I'm also big on self acceptance and self-awareness, using practical mindfulness and personal intelligence as a guide. This means getting to know yourself and your strengths to learn how to use them to help yourself.

At this time, I am prioritizing specific populations ( schizophrenia/ psychosis/bipolar/addiction).
Recovery and management should be realistic to each person’s individual capacities, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. I incorporate values, self-awareness, and deconstructing shame in my care. I believe in the importance of incorporating the state of the world into recovery; your care is driven by your unique experiences, strengths, and goals.

My experience has been in working with adolescent, adult, and older adult clients challenged by depression, anxiety, suicidality, identity development, mood disorders, men's issues, and schizophrenia spectrum disorders.
I work as an LMFT and LPCC serving clients virtually in California and Florida, virtually.
The clients that find their way to me are often people of color looking to process and work through anxiety, depression, questions of sexuality and gender, burnout and stress, and concerns related to how they show up in the world as men. In my practice, I support teens, adults, and couples in unpacking, making sense of, and growing from their past and present life challenges. Together, we will work to re-author limiting narratives, uncover hidden strengths, and build resilience.

Psychosis Therapists
What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?
The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.
When should people seek treatment for psychosis?
People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.
What if psychosis is left untreated?
Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.
How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?
It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
