Parenting feels draining. You’ve spent years as the emotional center of your family. You are the core, the go-to, the sun. Almost all of your time and energy has been spent being of service to others. Now you realize that you want more. More joy, more awe, more transcendence. You want to feel connected to this world and to something bigger. You want more internal peace and more balance in your life.

I also enjoy helping parents navigate the challenges of parenting , from infancy through the teen years.
East meets West. It is a phrase we hear often but how does it translate into practice? The pull lies in the strength of the familiar; the push is an urge to create space and jump into the unfamiliar. As an individual who was raised between two cultures, I offer a warm and safe space to discuss cultural competency as it relates to your life. Retaining your cultural values and traditions while simultaneously assimilating to the societal norms of your geographic upbringing can lead to many questions about ourselves in the past, present and future. I believe strongly in your ability to grow if nurtured in an encouraging environment.

Do you feel that past hurts are getting in the way of the vision you have for yourself or family? You find yourself in a new role in your life and all of a sudden old emotions are resurfacing and you're not sure where they are coming from. You know that you don't want to parent the way you were parented, but you're not sure how to break those cycles. These are some reasons you, your partner, or family may seek more support. I work with individuals and families that are ready to make changes in their lives by collaborating on goals and supporting clients in coping with emotions and thoughts that may be interfering with those goals.

This can be individual sessions with you, child- parent sessions for children up to 7, individual sessions with children aged 8-17, and relationship sessions with you and your partner or other family members.
I’m a child psychotherapist that works with new parents, children, and adolescents. You might be here because you have questions about your child’s behavior, wish for a more satisfying parent -child relationship, or are overwhelmed from the stresses of parenthood. Perhaps painful memories from your own childhood are impacting your parenting and family. Becoming a parent is one of the most profound transitions in the adult life cycle, and it naturally brings up shifts in our external and internal lives. It’s my honor to support individuals, couples, families, and children through this period and beyond.

Using a client centered approach, I have helped countless number of women and couples navigate family planning, parenting and have helped couples connect.
Road to motherhood can be frustrating and challenging. Perhaps you are thinking about fertility treatments, IVF, IUI, or adoption. Maybe it has been a difficult road with miscarriages, unsuccessful egg retrievals or using a surrogate. It can be an overwhelming place to try to start a family, while encountering road bumps along the way. After the baby comes, we may experience exhaustion, sadness and even even a sense of isolation from our partner, friends and family. Growing a family takes a village.

As the mother of two adult children I know that parenting is complicated and children can be delightful, quirky and exasperating in equal measure.
I believe in the transformational power of play and creativity for children, especially in the context of a warm, confidential relationship with a caring therapist. I understand that behavioral change is both skill based and relational. I have over thirty years of experience working only with children and adolescents in individual therapy. Thus I bring to my work a lifetime of professional experience understanding the developmental and attachment needs of children, a background of work in childhood trauma, anxiety symptoms and the special considerations required in helping children and parents navigate divorce.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
