Is anxiety or events from your past making it feel like life is out of control? Maybe you’re caught in a spiral of overthinking or stress you can’t seem to stop, constantly second-guessing yourself and not knowing how to cope. Or maybe you’re frustrated and exhausted by it all: feeling like you’ve done everything you can think of to "get over it", but still feeling overwhelmed or on edge all the time. You might be seeing patterns in your relationships that you want to change or wondering what’s going on under the surface that’s causing you to continue to feel this way.

Most people identify their relationships with their partner and family as the most important things in their life. Our society provides significant education about how to be successful in many other important life domains. However, most of us are left on our own to learn how to build successful relationships. I work with individuals and couples using methods of therapy that are based on research about what actually works to strengthen and heal relationships and improve overall well-being.

I am a relationship therapist. Utilizing secure, flexible, state-of-the art, online video therapy, I help couples in relationship distress. Many of the couples I work with come to therapy feeling lost in conflict cycles which they don't understand and desperately want to change. I understand how much courage it takes to reach out for help and to let another person get inside your relationship, especially when you are feeling hurt, discouraged, angry, or humiliated. If you are searching for a safe place to explore what's not working in your relationship, and support in creating solutions, please contact me.

I work with driven professionals, including couples, who are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, burnt out, struggling in their communication with others, experiencing anxiety, depression, imposter syndrome or perfectionism. These professionals often appear to have everything together to the outside observer, but feel lousy on the inside. Together we'll find ways to give these issues less power to impact you and your relationships and in turn make positive, meaningful changes that will better serve you moving forward.

Are you a person trying to explore your gender, race, or sexuality? Do you struggle to communicate your needs, set boundaries, and be assertive? I challenge you to speak your truth, understand yourself, and be authentic while maintaining boundaries. I use humor and a strong therapeutic relationship to help you be your ideal, most grounded self. When I think about transforming and changing one's life, I always reflect on Audre Lorde's powerful words. "What are the words you do not yet have...Next time, ask: What's the worst that will happen? Then push yourself a little further than you dare. "

Are you feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or lost? Perhaps you are having a hard time getting through each day and it just seems to be getting harder. Some nights you can’t turn your brain off - yet you don’t have the words to describe the thoughts that keep you up at night. People might not realize you lack confidence, feel worried, or struggle with perfectionism. You love the people around you, but you feel uncertain and lonely. You want to make changes to help yourself feel better, but you don't know what to do. You feel tired, disappointed, and are secretly worried you are the problem. You are ready to try something new.

Note: All client sessions are telehealth (video/phone). Hello! What if you woke up tomorrow and all your difficulties disappeared? Though hard to imagine, envisioning how you'd like your life to be is the first step in finding solutions. After hearing your story, I focus on strengths (in individuals and couples), and zero in on the possibilities for positive change. This can be difficult for anxious or depressed clients, but I find it a good start. I embrace the role of authentic, non-judgmental collaborator. I use techniques that can immediately reduce anxiety, and I show clients that depression is treatable.

I specialize in working with men approaching or in mid-life (30’s, 40’s, 50’s) who need help with work, relational and personal challenges. Adapting to a transition or preparing to make one, can lead to feeling stuck, anxious, depressed or full of anger. Perhaps you’re in a relationship that is more characterized by conflict rather than love and satisfying sex. Maybe you’re facing loss, feeling disconnected or overwhelmed by your feelings. These experiences can lead to addiction, isolation and compulsive behaviors. I’ve worked with these issues and I can help you.

I help high-achieving, creative women like you face the ghosts of your past that are preventing you from reaching your goals. Are you finally at a place in your life where you're no longer in survival mode? You’ve hit your career milestones? You’re checking off the bucket list items? Your friends and family think you’re doing so well… but there's still something missing? I get it. Past toxic relationships, traumatic experiences, and "crazy" emotions can keep us stuck in self sabotaging patterns, and prevent us from making friends with our feelings. You might experience low levels of chronic depression and anxiety.

How can I find a therapist in San Francisco?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
