I was born and raised in San Francisco and have extensive experience working with diverse children, teens, and adults throughout the Bay Area. I believe that therapy should be collaborative, and I will work with you to uncover what led you to reach out, and what works best for you in therapy. Stylistically, I believe in direct and transparent communication, and in making as much space for laughter as for other challenging emotions that can come up in therapy. I aim to create a supportive environment in which you feel understood and experience symptom relief and meaningful, long-lasting change.

So often we live in the grip of anxiety and depression. Our families pull out our worst, the realities of adulthood drain us, loss of loved ones or our own capacities become existential reality. Despite these challenges, we can always make changes in ourselves to increase our resilience and sense of fulfillment in life. Psychotherapy is serious work. While humor and levity in the present can help lighten difficult memories, we will dive deep into the past with expert attention to inform movement into a more complete future.

Everyone is unique. Your thoughts, feelings and needs are shaped by your own background, family history, past interpersonal encounters and other significant events, including early child trauma. Psychotherapy is an emotional process. As we discuss your concerns, it will surface unexamined parts of your life of which you may not be aware or want to experience. My central role as your therapist is to help you talk about and understand more fully these unexamined thoughts, feelings, and needs in the context of your past, develop greater understanding, tolerance and acceptance, and to bring changes to your current situation.

You may feel as if you are a passive participant in your life longing to be more active and connected while feeling so incredibly stuck. If you find yourself here, perhaps you or your child has been struggling to enjoy things that he or she usually enjoys (having friends over, heading outdoors, reading/watching tv). Their mind might be filled with worries of what others think and they did something wrong and are having difficulties shaking off an interaction. You or your child are wanting to feel more at ease in your relationships while finding yourself in familiar unhelpful patterns.

Starting therapy and finding the right fit can be a daunting task. I view the therapeutic relationship as something that is co-created over time and as the primary tool for healing. I have experience working with ages 3-50+ providing specific insights and tools relevant for the progressive stages of life and the many difficulties that can come up along the way. Focusing on the here and now, we work to increase self awareness, compassion, insight and care while simultaneously holding the larger context within which we meet, including ways that race, gender, class and culture impact our experiences and identities.
