An ideal client is someone who shows up. Not even in the way of making every appointment (life happens) but takes the first step toward growth and self development. An ideal client is not a diagnosis or impairment in functioning but anyone who wants to live better and understand themselves more within our weird and scary world. I encourage my clients to advocate for what is working and name what is not by checking in so our time together is the most supportive possible.

Studies have shown that a strong support system has a significant impact on one's mental and physical health. There are various types of support which can be powerful for individuals - practical support, informational and social-emotional. That is where I come in. As an LCSW, I have worked with diverse populations including neurodivergent youth, young adults and families. Families are interdependent and when they are out of equilibrium due to a stressful event, roles of each member become blurred and misunderstood. My goal is to help the family return to homeostasis by addressing individual needs and how they impacts others.

So often we live in the grip of anxiety and depression. Our families pull out our worst, the realities of adulthood drain us, loss of loved ones or our own capacities become existential reality. Despite these challenges, we can always make changes in ourselves to increase our resilience and sense of fulfillment in life. Psychotherapy is serious work. While humor and levity in the present can help lighten difficult memories, we will dive deep into the past with expert attention to inform movement into a more complete future.

Life is hard. I set high expectations for myself, but sometimes they’re impossible to meet. I try to build relationships where I can truly be myself, but sometimes vulnerability is too scary. I try to be strong and hold it together, but sometimes my emotions get the best of me. In therapy, we can explore these types of experiences and more. You may think that some parts of you – thoughts, behaviors, or traits – are good, and others are bad. I think they all exist for a reason, but some of those parts may no longer align with your goals. Let’s challenge your beliefs and figure out what works for you now.

I look forward to working with any psychological issues, but especially with clients expressing a sincere, motivating desire to change their life. I work with individuals (children & adults) and couples experiencing both deeper, long-term difficulties as well as more situational, short-term problems. While I work to help patients alleviate acute symptoms, it is often possible & advantageous to resolve the underlying causes of anxiety & depression in particular. My doctoral work also focused on Organizational Development. Clients facing work-related issues usually find this added perspective and training helpful.

Our world is full of stories and it can be hard to decide which of these stories truly serve you. The people in our lives may have lots of ideas about what we should think or do, and it can be hard to cut through the white noise to identify what you really want. Do you ever feel so lost in others' stories that you find it difficult to hear yourself? With so many story tellers around you, is there any space for you to be the author? You have a story to tell. Whether you're anxious about a looming exam, processing the passing of a loved one, or just living your life, your story should be heard - and respected - fully.

Hello! Whatever your reasons are for considering counseling, I hope that you are able to see the wisdom and the bravery in seeking assistance. Our mental and emotional health are important and have a large impact on our relationships, careers, and general well-being. They should be treated as a priority. Consider that people go to the gym to take care of their bodies, and that taking preventative measures are more effective and efficient than waiting until something breaks down. We take these attitudes towards our bodies, why not our minds?

There are many factors that can lead a person to therapy. Perhaps you’re experiencing a persistent feeling of fear, loneliness, or anxiety, but can’t quite put your finger on where it’s coming from. You may have experienced a recent change or loss of a loved one, relationship, or job that is profoundly impacting you. Or, it could be that the voice of your inner critic is so loud that they/she/he is all you hear.

I practice within a psychodynamic, relational framework, with a focus on issues of trauma, neglect, depression, anxiety and isolation. My clinical experience have been in hospital and hospice settings that surround anticipated grief and bereavement; community mental health outpatient settings and research institutes.
