I am a DBT therapist specializing in BPD , C-PTSD and other versions of emotion dysregulation. I use primarily DBT to help people who want to work on understanding their emotions better in order to feel more in control of their lives. Learning our emotions more clearly can help us come to a greater understanding of who we are and why. I also help my clients envision the lives they want to have and who they want to be and then work towards those goals. As an Asian-American therapist, I also work with children of immigrants and bicultural folks to find acceptance and peace through this new understanding of themselves.

I also work with borderline and psychotic symptoms, getting to the bottom of why a happy life of love and wonder is so elusive.
One of the things that haunts me about our all too human condition is how much pain we have to suffer in the ordinary conduct of our lives. Who do we turn to when we are in such despair that we don’t know where to turn? I believe all of us suffer from occasional feelings of fear, alienation, depression, confusion. Some suffer from these symptoms more than others, but we are all otherwise more or less the same. I try to connect with your deepest existential issues and help you get to know yourself intimately, in order to bring the passion and happiness than has been missing back into your life . . . or perhaps, for the first time?

I work with clients who have PTSD, perinatal and postpartum difficulties, borderline personality, substance abuse, and modo difficulties.
Clients who feel drawn to work with me are motivated to gain clarity on where they feel stuck, lost, or broken in life. They are seeking to challenge themselves to live and think differently, so that they may honor and heal their past - and how their past shows up in their present - but not be held back by it. Clients of mine are able to break free from self-limiting beliefs, shame, and emotional reactivity. The root of these difficulties stems from trauma, childhood or family patterns, systemic issues, and/or the perinatal phase of life. Clients I work with have goals of living more authentically + consistently with their values.

If you feel you're a trauma victim of Narcissist or Borderline personality disorder abuse and need to take steps to heal, you have come to the right place.
GASLIGHTING; NARCISSIST ABUSE; CODEPENDENCY; TOXIC ATTACHMENT; HI-CONFLICT RELATIONSHIP: Gaslighting is a form of psychological/emotional abuse where the abuser manipulates situations repeatedly to trick the victim into doubting his/her own memory, perception & sanity. You're accused of doing something that you know you didn't do or say. Often belittled, demeaned, and raged upon. You walk on eggshells & constantly need to watch what you say for fear your partner might blow up. You often feel confused & now distrust yourself; have trouble making decisions & feel like you lost yourself or don't know the person you used to be.

I specialize in treating people who have experienced traumatic events such as sexual assault, sudden loss, childhood abuse or divorce. I work with my clients to treat common trauma symptoms such as depression, anxiety, issues with sexuality, and chronic pain. I specialize in treating adults with: Relationship & Couples Issues, Trauma and PTSD, Borderline Personality Disorder and Mood & Anxiety Disorders, Our emotions and feelings take a toll when they go unaddressed, affecting our relationships, self-worth and general life satisfaction. So often, these emotional problems stem from our family-of-origin and intergenerational traumas & wounds. While we can feel that something is wrong, the path to healing, recovery and health can feel messy and out-of-reach. Our feelings are not a reflection of reality because we can experience freedom from the dysfunctional patterns in our lives.

I have over 12 years experience working with adults and youth facing depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, eating disorders, BPD .
Life is beautiful, and sometimes rocky and unpredictable. By nature, humans are collective beings. When we suffer or feel down or lost, we need others - someone to talk to, someone who can offer a healthy perspective and someone who helps us see our own personal good and path again. In my practice, I create a safe and trusting environment, providing people with the emotional support needed to overcome challenging times and make positive adjustments to be and feel your best.

Seeking therapy is often a very difficult decision to make, but a brave and probably necessary one. I am here to make you feel safe and confident that it was the right decision. Therapy works to help resolve issues that affect virtually every facet of our lives. If you've been afflicted with mood dysregulation (i.e., depression, anxiety, anger, borderline personality disorder, etc.), suffered trauma, have troubles in your relationships (family, social, and/or romantic), have issues with disordered eating, fighting addiction, or are just noticing that things in life have been slipping, I am here to walk with you towards resolution.

Too often psychotherapy focuses on causality, pathology and cures. However, rather than being "sick" or 'broken", often we are just lost inside ourselves or relationships. Everyone is a unique person with their own story, experience and perspective. The goal of therapy is to achieve a deeper awareness of where we are, to discover internal meaning for our many experiences, and to experience a life worth living. While working towards that awareness, I also feel it important to teach individuals, couples and families the skills needed to cope with the pain and day to day stressors that bring them into therapy.

Borderline Personality (BPD) Therapists

What is the most successful approach to treating borderline personality disorder?

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is considered the gold standard of treatment for borderline personality disorder. An evidence-based treatment, it addresses the extreme emotional reactivity, the relationship difficulties, and the acts of self-harm that create so much distress for BPD patients. DBT is a comprehensive program that includes both regular individual psychotherapy sessions and weekly group sessions of skills training.

What happens in treatment of borderline personality disorder?

Treatment typically consists of weekly individual therapy sessions that last an hour and group skill-focused instructional sessions that may last up to two hours. Patients are typically given homework “assignments” in which they are asked to practice in their daily life the skills they acquire in therapy. Patients also keep a diary tracking their emotions and impulses as a way to know which situations are most problematic and to help them gain control over their own behavior. Difficult situations and feelings are typically reviewed in therapy sessions and more constructive solutions found.

What kinds of problems does BPD treatment help with?

DBT was initially developed to dampen the self-destructive impulses of chronically suicidal patients. It is now the treatment of choice for borderline personality disorder, a serious condition marked by extreme emotional reactivity, relationship instability, and self-injurious behaviors. Treatment of BPD helps patients tolerate the flux of emotions without acting on them, often with a specific focus on tolerating negative emotions. DBT addresses the core problems of BPD—fear of abandonment, low self-esteem, and impulsivity.

What is the goal of treatment in borderline personality disorder?

The goal of treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) is to relieve the extreme emotional distress that patients experience—to curb their emotional reactivity, to minimize their inclination to self-harm, and to reduce their impulsivity. Toward these ends, patients are not only taught an array of new coping skills and techniques for emotional regulation, they are given opportunities to practice them. Another major goal of treatment is interpersonal effectiveness; patients learn and problem-solve ways to effectively communicate in relationships, especially how to ask for what they need as a way to minimize hurt feelings.
