They’ve survived by striving to manage their emotions, overcome their fears, and hold back problematic impulses, not to mention managing everyone around them.
To facilitate true change, we go to the level of the body and work with what we find. Often traumas are trapped like old wounds, held by parts of ourselves that are aching to be heard and witnessed, to be relieved of their pain. I use a gentle, somatic-informed Internal Family Systems approach to guide clients to befriend themselves and relearn trust.

I have helped clients dealing with anxiety, depression, grief issues, interpersonal issues, as well as many other issues.
I use an eclectic therapeutic style, however, I find that I often use interventions of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focus Brief Therapy, Transtheoretical Model, as well as Motivational Interviewing. I believe that no one person or situation is the same and because of that, I believe that flexibility can often help my clients gain the most benefit.

Positive and healthy experiences can deeply enrich our lives, fostering a sense of connection and clarity about what we truly want and deserve. However, many of us have also faced negative or traumatic experiences that can shape our core beliefs, leaving us feeling unworthy, unlovable, or trapped in harmful thought patterns and behaviors. I am here to support you as you work towards creating the life you truly desire.

I'd love to help you transform your suffering, fear or frustrations into something brighter.
My approaches generally include emotional awareness, CBT, mindfulness, and humanistic therapies that help you confront and transform obstacles into greater harmony. Maybe you know exactly what you want to work on; maybe you just know you could be happier and more fulfilled or alive. Either way, it's a collaborative process that we'll navigate together.

A good therapy session should feel emotional and immediate, yet grounded in the past so one can understand and feel old experiences in new ways. Sometimes there is laughter and sometimes there are tears. A good therapy session feels alive and satisfying.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
