Are you a high performing man who is reaching a point where alcohol use feels conflicted and no longer in alignment?
By grounding my work in IFS, an evidence based approach, I understand alcohol use as a strategy rather than a failure. In IFS, we get curious about the parts of your that turn to alcohol and the parts that are concerned about its impact. This creates safety and space for change that is sustainable, respectful, and driven from within.

I have provided therapy for individuals (children K-12 and adults), family, group, and couple sessions for over ten years. My modality is Cognitive Behavioral which means we believe it is not the event itself but how we perceive and react to the circumstance that may cause a problem. We will explore different possibilities through our session and discover what may serve us the best in pursuing happiness.

I work with adults who are often seen by others as highly capable, dependable, and “holding it all together,” while privately struggling with anxiety, burnout, relationship challenges, grief, trauma, or emotional exhaustion. Many of my clients are professionals, caregivers, creatives, and high-achieving individuals who have spent years prioritizing responsibility, achievement, or the needs of others over themselves.
I specialize in working with individuals in established recovery who are looking for deeper therapeutic support beyond early sobriety, as well as partners, family members, and loved ones impacted by addiction.

Is anxiety or perfectionism impacting your day-to-day life? Do you find yourself feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or isolated by patterns you can’t seem to shift? Are substances, your own or a loved one's, taking up more space in your life than you want? You’re not alone. In therapy, we will explore what matters to you, identify patterns that keep you stuck, and discover ways to respond that feel more aligned with your values. I am here to walk alongside you in that process with curiosity, compassion, and honesty. I believe that meaningful change is possible, and that you don’t have to do it alone.

Being addicted to alcohol or drugs is like being in a dark pit where you do not know what is up and what is down. It is cold and lonely, and you can feel hopeless about finding any escape. Being the family member of a loved one who is struggling with addiction is scary and can leave you sad and in a constant state of uncertainty. You are always asking yourself why is your loved one pushing aside the life ring you toss out and grabbing the anchor of drugs and alcohol over and over and over again. You see they are drowning and feel you cannot save them. Addiction is insidious, but there are paths to recovery.

Therapy changed my life... It made it much worse. I’m kidding, it helped tremendously and inspired me to become a therapist myself! I had been suffering with depression, burnout, anxiety and more, but I would soon experience the power of working with a pro, and it saved my life. I'd be honored to help you like my therapist helped me.

Many of my clients are high-achieving teens and adults who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, burnout, or patterns around alcohol or substance use. They are used to taking care of others but are now realizing they also need support. On the outside, they may appear successful and put-together, but internally, they feel stressed, disconnected, and stuck. I also work with first- and second-generation Americans navigating cultural identity, family expectations, and intergenerational conflict. I offer therapy in English and can incorporate Mandarin when helpful to support communication and cultural understanding.

I am an LMFT specializing in dating and relationships, life transitions, and confidence building. Alcohol Use Therapists
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
