I work with adults dealing with anxiety, depression, body image and self esteem , disordered eating, and relationship issues.
I believe beginning therapy takes courage, and I have the utmost respect for anyone taking that risk. I strive to create a warm space of total acceptance for where you are in your journey. For as long as I can remember, I've been interested in people's stories. It's not surprising that I ended up doing the work I do. As a therapist, I listen to a person and help make sense of both their struggles and their strengths. I help my clients find meaning in their experience and move forward to create new stories about themselves and the world around them.

My practice focuses on self-esteem, relationships, and personal growth. I specialize in working with people who are wanting to know themselves well, deepen relationships, and manage anxiety and depression. I help you connect with your inner world (feelings, needs, values) and explore how past experiences have shaped who you are. Through the safety of a compassionate and nurturing therapeutic relationship, we'll get curious about what is holding you back, define what is important to you, explore any unhelpful patterns you may be stuck in, and start trying new ways of coping.

Sometimes it can be very difficult to get relief from emotional problems on your own. It's hard to dedicate the time and space to figure it out. Often the situation feels too confusing and hopeless to confront alone. In my practice, I work together with people grappling with universal struggles such as how to connect with others more freely and build healthy relationships, how to identify work that is meaningful to you and feel successful doing it, how to be more accepting of yourself, and how to move on from past trauma and disappointments.

I can help you bridge differences and deal with conflicts and meltdowns in an empathetic and constructive way. Also, I work for with LGBTQ people and couples with a variety of mental health concerns like anxiety and depression. It's hard growing up different from your peers. I am experienced in working with people confronted by relationship challenges, low self esteem , anxiety, depression, family challenges and self harm.
Most of us lug around a suitcase full of our thoughts, feelings, family history and past experiences and have no idea what's in there. Our current responses to and experience of life come from the contents of that suitcase. Together in therapy we gently unpack it. We will see what is working for you, what needs more support and what has served it's purpose but no longer works. I work collaboratively and am curious about all the things that make you who you are. I am particularly interested in working with people who feel misunderstood or unimportant.

In pain and struggle are also resilience, strength and even opportunity. Engaging in a therapeutic relationship is an act of courage and hope that can lead to relief and lasting change. You may be experiencing loneliness, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, low self esteem , loss, creative blocks or the effects of trauma and oppression. Maybe you are just not where you would like to be in your life. Therapy can help to create a more fulfilling life in part by deepening self knowledge, increasing resilience and mitigating the effects of early life experiences.

In the fast-paced, hyper-competitive Bay Area, it can be challenging to balance all of the roles that we assume. Work, school, money, technology, and relationship stressors can leave us feeling depleted. Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and career dissatisfaction are some of the ways stressors may manifest. My aim is to support and help to empower you to improve your life by engaging in the life that you want to lead. This may result in increased effectiveness, happiness, and reduced suffering in all of your roles.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
