Is one or more of your kids on the Spectrum or have the ASD/ADD/ OCD triad? In your relationship, is one of you on the spectrum and one not and is that causing misunderstandings and problems? Are you on the spectrum and having trouble understanding the non-spectrum people and world around you? I can help you bridge differences and deal with conflicts and meltdowns in an empathetic and constructive way. Also, I work for with LGBTQ people and couples with a variety of mental health concerns like anxiety and depression. It's hard growing up different from your peers. It can cause low self esteem, crippling self doubt and anger.

My approach to psychotherapy is holistic. I not only treat the "tip of the iceberg" problems, but also address the deeper, "bottom of the ocean," issues. I treat the whole person and honor the mind-body-spirit connections, taking into account the client's cultural, religious and ethnic background, ancestry, race and immigration history. I recognize the complexity of each person's history and circumstances and employ a wide variety of techniques to guide my clients in their self-discovery.

Beginning therapy is not easy. Finding the right therapist in San Francisco can feel daunting. Examining one’s difficulties requires courage and resolve. Feelings of reluctance and apprehension are common and understandable. But, therapy is a long-term investment in yourself and in your desire to live a fuller, more satisfying life. With a lot of effort and patience, the therapeutic process can pays off. If you’re interested in starting therapy I recommend we have two or three initial meetings to see how it feels to talk and think together.

There are many reasons to begin therapy. No issue is too small or unworthy of consideration and care. Sometimes the stated reasons for seeking therapy are beacons for something deeper, which may or may not be related to the present problem. Together, we can focus on alleviating distress in the short term while beginning the more in-depth process of addressing issues at their core. In this process, many of the people I work with discover what is most important to them, what can be changed, and what can be actualized within their relationships and career.

I offer you an empathetic, direct, and practical presence in your journey towards healing. After becoming a physician (I am a licensed Obstetrician Gynecologist), I discovered another calling of mine is working with people and their emotions. As a therapist who is also a physician, I bring knowledge and wisdom of medicine, the body, and the mind-body connection. With this background I offer you a unique, experienced, and well-rounded therapist. (For safety reasons, I am currently only offering online therapy sessions.)

Most of us lug around a suitcase full of our thoughts, feelings, family history and past experiences and have no idea what's in there. Our current responses to and experience of life come from the contents of that suitcase. Together in therapy we gently unpack it. We will see what is working for you, what needs more support and what has served it's purpose but no longer works. I work collaboratively and am curious about all the things that make you who you are. I am particularly interested in working with people who feel misunderstood or unimportant.

You may be a highly educated and successful person who struggles with perfectionism, work-life balance or impostor syndrome (doubting your accomplishments; fearing being seen as a fraud). You may be a person of color, a child of immigrants or someone who is geographically separated from your family and other support systems. I have had significant experience helping individuals like yourself, experiencing both personal and work-related stress. I work to understand your story, and together we develop a plan to address the goals that you have for improving your quality of life.

Therapy is self-care. Whether you wish to attend to long-standing issues or deal with unexpected life events, you have the opportunity in therapy to learn how to reassert control over your heart, mind and body; to treat yourself with love and respect; and to add meaning and depth to relationships. My style is very open, warm, and flexible. I will collaborate with you to meet your individual needs and provide the space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings.

We are often ruled by thoughts and patterns of conditioning that are largely outside of our awareness. While adaptive, this process can sometimes lead us astray. I aim to help you uncover unhealthy patterns of conditioning by cultivating awareness through mindful intention which will ultimately help guide you towards a more conscious and fulfilling life. I have extensive experience working with individuals suffering from mood disorders, trauma-related disorders and substance abuse.

Everyone is unique. Your thoughts, feelings and needs are shaped by your own background, family history, past interpersonal encounters and other significant events, including early child trauma. Psychotherapy is an emotional process. As we discuss your concerns, it will surface unexamined parts of your life of which you may not be aware or want to experience. My central role as your therapist is to help you talk about and understand more fully these unexamined thoughts, feelings, and needs in the context of your past, develop greater understanding, tolerance and acceptance, and to bring changes to your current situation.

As a licensed therapist based in San Francisco, I help individuals and couples dive beneath the surface-level issues to discover the underlying causes of their distress. Many of the men and women who choose to work with me are in the grips of anxiety, depression, addiction, grief, or relationship challenges. Many are highly motivated professionals that are self-reliant and achievement-focused, but often struggle with self-defeating thoughts and patterns that keep them feeling stuck.

Do you have a hard time speaking up and expressing yourself? When you anticipate a conflict or someone who may have a differing opinion than you, do you tend to keep quiet to maintain the peace? The world sees you as gentle and kind. You are capable, accountable, and have achieved a lot. But There is more fire in you that wants to come out and make things happen. I can help you access the other parts of you that the world doesn’t get to see, the parts that you don’t acknowledge in you but can see and admire in others. Once these parts are allowed to come out, they can help you navigate life with less doubt, more ease, and clarity.

I provide phone and online sessions, please contact me by emails. I have 13 years of experience working with individuals and couples. To me, therapy is a form of healing that helps us find balance and psychological flexibility through a therapeutic process. Whether it is learning more coping skills or arriving to a new insight about ourselves, it is a journey of understanding our lives better. Through that journey, we will learn WHEN and WHAT to let go or to keep. Exploring what serve us purpose now, even the negative behaviors, can help us understand our past, present and future.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviors that make them feel driven to do something (compulsions). It affects children, kids, teens and adults. Often the person carries out the behaviors to get rid of the obsessive thoughts, but this only provides temporary relief. Not performing the obsessive rituals can cause great anxiety. A person's level of OCD can be anywhere from mild to severe, but if severe and left untreated, it can destroy a person's capacity to function at work, at school or even to lead a comfortable existence in the home.
