I tend to work well with female-identified and nonbinary folks who have had difficult relationships with their sense of self and with others, endurance athletes and ultrarunners who have had a major setback or injury, folks who have a strained
relationship
with their body, and folks in their 20s to 40s who are ready to take an honest look at their dating and drinking habits, their sexuality, or how they envision the next move in their career or education. I help folks find a sense of peace from the nagging feeling of being disconnected from their sense of self and from those around them.

I integrate experiential,
relationship
-focused therapies with skills-based treatments in order to help clients to understand and address the obstacles that are hindering their ability to live life more fully.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. The clients who have most benefited from working with me have come to therapy because they feel stuck, or feel perplexed by their thoughts and emotions. I specialize, in particular, in working with adults who were raised by an emotionally immature parent. I help clients learn to understand their most confusing and painful feelings and to develop a strong sense of who they are with trust in themselves. I am also experienced in helping transgender clients, as well as helping clients address grief,
relationship
concerns, multiracial identity development, and depression.

Meaningful relationships are an essential part of fulfillment and happiness. I believe in the unique power of the
relationship
that develops between therapist and client. Through an exploration of this interaction, we can more wholly understand your past and current relationships and help shape future experiences. I work with people who are struggling in a variety of ways and are ready to dig in and do some difficult and deeply powerful work that will lead to greater choice and freedom. I view my opportunity to join individuals in their journey toward self-understanding as a great privilege and find the work exciting and gratifying.

My passion for this work is fueled by my view that every individual already has the answers they are seeking, whether they realize this or not. On our brief time on this planet, therapy provides an invaluable gateway toward healing, self-discovery, and personal growth. My clients usually find me because they are seeking a change, a new approach to therapy, exploration to unresolved issues from childhood, and many other reasons.

I have been working and teaching in the mental health field for the past 18 years and have helped many people grow, live a more authentic life and form stronger bonds with the ones they love. I believe a good therapeutic
relationship
forms the foundation from which emotional growth and change occur. I create a warm, playful and collaborative environment where your thoughts and feelings can be safely experienced and explored. Ultimately, a good experience in therapy should help you to become more yourself and feel more secure in who that is.

I have more than 20 years experience working with individuals and
couples
in short term and in longer term in depth psychotherapy. My clients struggle with depression, anxiety, loneliness,
relationship
challenges, questions around life direction, life purpose, personal identity. Often they report feeling "stuck," frustrated in their creative expression or in their ability to change or move forward in their lives. I try to look at each individual's strengths (ask how we can build upon those), and also look at where a person is getting in his or her own way.

Welcome!...If you are reading this, you are most likely looking to make a change. It could be something you have been working towards for some time, or a sudden spark of inspiration and clarity. Whatever your journey to this moment, you are in a ripe time for development and growth! I have extensive experience helping adults of all ages and orientations identify and meet their therapy, work,
relationship
, and life goals. I especially enjoy working adults struggling with anxiety, trauma, low-self-worth, life transitions, work/life balance, perfectionism, and self-actualization.

I work with individual adults,
couples
, adolescents and seniors.
Therapy doesn't have to be a mysterious and confusing process. I believe that it should be linked directly to one's personal goals and desire for change. I'll work with you to enhance your self-knowledge, expand your emotional awareness and thinking to provide you new ways of solving problems and enhancing well-being. My style is direct and collaborative and aims to identify patterns of thinking, feeling, acting and relating that reinforce fears and negative attitudes, thereby limiting your ability to pursue your goals. Exploring the underlying forces and dynamics driving those patterns opens up new avenues for growth and change.

Using a client centered approach, I have helped countless number of women and
couples
navigate family planning, parenting and have helped
couples
connect.
Road to motherhood can be frustrating and challenging. Perhaps you are thinking about fertility treatments, IVF, IUI, or adoption. Maybe it has been a difficult road with miscarriages, unsuccessful egg retrievals or using a surrogate. It can be an overwhelming place to try to start a family, while encountering road bumps along the way. After the baby comes, we may experience exhaustion, sadness and even even a sense of isolation from our
partner
, friends and family. Growing a family takes a village.

I often work with those who are in a life transition such as having lost a
relationship
, a job, or are recently out of college and just getting started in their careers.
Therapy is about how you can feel better, how to make your life rich and satisfying. What is in your way? What stops you from being the person you want to be, from living the life you want to live? I see people of all ages, in all walks of life and help them overcome obstacles to acheiving their goals. Often it is inner blocks like anxiety and depression, that stand in your way. Other times there are experiences you've had that make it hard to feel free. Therapy can help you sort it all out, and take positive steps towards a new start.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
