Substance Use Therapists in Pacific Heights, San Francisco, CA
What if there is nothing wrong with you? What if you never had to judge you again? My specialty is inviting clients to their greatness and success; clearing the energies that don't allow for achievement, creativity, and possibilities. I work with clients from all walks of life who are demanding freedom and change. My clients tend to be the seekers, the highly creative, and the dissatisfied dreamers of the world who want more out of living. If you have "been there and done that" and know that more is possible, I would be an ideal therapist for you. My new book "What If You're Not As F-ed Up As You Think You Are?" is all about this.

Psychotherapy can help when you are struggling with something specific, or when you are feeling concerned about where your life is going in general. There may be patterns that you tend to repeat and wish to change. Common concerns include relationships, work, anxiety, depression, grief, and childhood trauma. Depth therapy and Jungian psychoanalysis aim to go beyond symptom relief to unblock your capacity to grow into who you are uniquely meant to be.

You look capable and put together, but inside you feel stuck. You may be caught in patterns like emotional distance, secrecy, compulsive behaviors, or repeated relationship struggles you can’t seem to change. Maybe you’re coming out of a breakup or betrayal, or feeling disconnected from intimacy, meaning, or yourself. You’re thoughtful and self-aware — but tired of understanding your patterns without actually feeling different.

As a psychotherapist, I help individuals, by fostering a safe and engaging environment, to express their feelings and think about their experiences. I support individuals in the context of the therapeutic relationship to better understand themselves and the difficulties they are having. I help clients identify and ascribe meaning to the things that are not in their awareness. In psychotherapy, individuals can learn to understand and manage their internal obstacles that have led to difficulties in their mood, behavior, self-esteem, jobs and relationships.

As a licensed psychoanalytic psychotherapist and relational psychoanalyst, I believe in the collaborative process of assisting clients in uncovering their emotional and personal truths. I attempt to create a safe place for the client to more fully understand and transform their challenging lived experiences, in order to identify and work through the obstacles that inhibit their growth. I see my therapeutic role as being a thought partner in helping clients create meaningful change and identify and strengthen one’s inherent resilience.

I specialize in working with outwardly high-functioning women who feel anxious, overwhelmed, and disconnected. My clients often appear composed and capable on the outside, but privately struggle with self-doubt, emotional flooding or shutdown, people-pleasing, and the exhausting pressure to keep it all together. Many have a history of relational or developmental trauma, and feel lost in their relationships, unsure of who they are outside of others' expectations.

You may be feeling anxiety, depression, or creatively blocked, like the vibrant parts of you are hiding under a heavy layer of self-doubt or overwhelm. Maybe you’ve lost your spark, or are tired of feeling out of control. You don’t have to push through alone. Many of my clients are artists, creatives, deep feelers, and sensitive souls who are ready to reconnect with themselves and express what’s been held back. Therapy can be a space to get unstuck, explore gently, and start to feel more like you again—curious, alive, and whole.

If you are someone who is motivated to understand yourself on a deeper level and to challenge and change beliefs and behaviors that no longer serve you than I am the therapist for you. I work well with people who are struggling with addiction and relationship issues; people who keep repeating the same unfufilling patterns and want to change them, whether at work, with their partner or spouse, or with their children. Often these dynamics are reflective of deeper wounds, and need to be addressed so they can change and heal. I am deeply committed to helping my clients get unstuck, and this process takes some time, but is well worth it.

We all struggle at times to learn from life and to become our best selves. As a young man I pursued a variety of strategies, healthy and unhealthy, to cope with my own struggles. I think we all do that. When I entered into psychotherapy for the first time I found the help that I needed to learn and to grow and to overcome the struggles that had been so overwhelming for me. I became a psychologist to pass on what had been so helpful for me.
