I have been practicing psychotherapy for 40 years. I am an active therapist, committed to staying deeply engaged in our moment-to-moment exchange. I am able to go to the depths of a client's experience, allowing for the release of tangled feelings, and the breaking open of psychological "knots." I employ EFT , and EMDR and Flash (for trauma), as well as guided imagery, which allows clients to access and make use of the expansive and healing capacities of the unconscious mind. I am also skilled in working pragmatically, helping people communicate better, shift habits of negative thinking, and solve troubling life concerns.

I have advanced training in Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Mindfulness and Compassion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
There are many things that draw us to therapy. Some arrive struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or career uncertainty. Others have difficulty managing  the roller coaster of emotions inherent in the peri- and postpartum experience, while some simply want a space to engage in deeper reflection. Whatever your goals and challenges, I welcome the opportunity to see whether I may be a good fit for your journey.

I'm primarily psychodynamic/attachment based in theory, but knowledgeable & skilled in various treatment modalities (motivational interviewing/CBT/ EFT ).
I specialize in attachment theory, addictions& addiction related issues (like codependency). I also enjoy working with premarital couples/couples wanting to strengthen communication skills or rebuild trust within their relationship. Caregivers were the first to teach us how to relate to others. Healthy relationships are often not modeled for us & we wonder why the same troubled patterns repeat. I can help you gain insight into these patterns & work together to have healthier relationships. My goal is to get to know you, establish a strong connection, and provide a safe space to begin your healing journey together.

For over 20 years, I've helped couples and individuals develop increased self-trust and self-awareness, greater life purpose and more conscious, loving and intimate relationships.

As we change and grow, and get caught up in the daily grind, we forget to tend to our relationships and they can begin to feel burdensome. Part of what I do is normalize that relationships are work. Over time they disappoint us, trigger us, and often serve as mirrors for parts of ourselves we like the least. We start to forget that they bring us joy and purpose and get wrapped up in toxic thought patterns. The neglect breeds contempt and then we feel more disconnected than ever. My passion lies in helping you reconnect with yourself and your loved ones.

I specialize in working with men approaching or in mid-life (30’s, 40’s, 50’s) who need help with work, relational and personal challenges. Adapting to a transition or preparing to make one, can lead to feeling stuck, anxious, depressed or full of anger. Perhaps you’re in a relationship that is more characterized by conflict rather than love and satisfying sex. Maybe you’re facing loss, feeling disconnected or overwhelmed by your feelings. These experiences can lead to addiction, isolation and compulsive behaviors. I’ve worked with these issues and I can help you.

I help individuals who are feeling overwhelmed. Do you feel like you should be doing something more, even when you're already doing something? Is your inner voice telling you to do more, be more, or strive harder? Have you felt like you're failing or "broken" or that there aren't people who understand or care about your suffering? In our work together, we will explore ways of developing comfort with the spectrum of emotions. We also work to balance your caregiving responsibilities with your needs, creating space for your most replenished, empowered self.

I specialize in treating survivors of narcissistic abuse, relationship issues, anxiety and depression. I am also very interested in what it means and how to become, a fully functioning human being, emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually. In this world that has been accelerating at a pace beyond our expectations and sometimes our ability to cope, how do we find peace, happiness and fulfillment, or at least the absence of anxiety and depression? Locked within our own personal stories lie the answer to these questions. Whatever "pathology" you present with can be turned into a "path" toward healing.

I believe in the powerful abilities of a positive therapeutic relationship. I want clients to look forward to coming each week and to feel safe in our space. I appreciate when clients are not afraid to admit what they don't know and are open to new perspectives or experimenting with new ways of doing things. I do not have all the answers and it will likely be you, with my guidance that taps into the answers that are already there. I have a good sense of humor and believe that using a mix of humor, honesty, reflection and compassion can have the greatest impact on helping us heal our hearts and live our best lives.

Welcome. I offer an initial 30 minute phone or video consultation at no charge. It's essential to determine comfort level and fit before proceeding. I have have expertise with adult ADHD, marital/relational therapy, trauma (PTSD), geriatric populations, bipolar spectrum disorders, and the more common disorders (major depression/anxiety). My approach aims to provide some immediate symptom relief while also focusing on deeper, longer term resolution. Many clinical situations cannot be quickly resolved in a way that sustains. Therefore, I am also attentive to unconscious processes, relational patterns and family-of-origin influences.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
