The past few years have been a challenge for our relationships and our sex lives. Maybe you've been struggling to resolve differences with your partner/s, or maybe you're just feeling stuck. I help clients identify and understand what lies beneath these stuck places, and work to free them from relational and emotional distress. Using easy to implement tools for healthy communication and intimacy, I help couples negotiate desire discrepancy, find solutions for low-sexual marriages, and navigate the impact of extra-marital relationships: including
polyamory
, infidelity, & consensual non-monogamy. I am kink aware & LGBTQ+ friendly.

I am a generalist and have expertise with anxiety disorders/stress management, couples therapy, LGBTQ+, kink, CNM &
polyamory
, undergraduate/graduate students, identity development, relationships, grief/loss, adult children of alcoholics/addicts, & relational trauma.
After training and working at universities across the country like Stanford, Emory, and Northwestern, effective therapy requires a few essential components: a strong therapist-client relationship, a supportive yet challenging environment, and a combination of skill-based and insight-oriented work. I work from an anti-oppressive, feminist framework to create a safe environment for understanding a person within their context and cultivating opportunities for exploration, insight, and healing to occur. I provide therapy for individuals and couples.

Accepting clients as of June 2023. I work with couples on topics such as
polyamory
, sexuality, infidelity, codependency, and addiction. As a therapist, I value honesty above all else because if we're not honest about what is bothering us, we can't fix it- that means that we have to sometimes be truthful to ourselves or sometimes be truthful to our partners. I am extremely direct as a therapist, I use plenty of dark humor, and my clients often describe me as the most effective therapist they have worked with. Please feel free to email me for a consultation and check out my website for group therapy I offer for addiction/codependency!

I help Millennial and Gen X professionals consciously get what they want in life and relationships. Life is overwhelming. Between work, relationships, and technology calling for your attention at every moment, it’s extremely difficult to remain calm and grounded. We can lose our sense of purpose and passion.

What do you want to accomplish in therapy? A lot of people want to have less of something: anxiety, depression, anger, relationship conflict, and so forth. This is understandable. When things hurt us and get in our way, even if those things come from inside us, it’s very reasonable to want them to go away. But what if making thing go away has been the problem all along? Can you remember a time in your life when you felt strong, resilient, and resourceful? During this time, was your life free from problems? I’m guessing not. Bu you were probably were moving your feet in the direction of things that mattered to you at the time.

You often feel like you're watching your life unfold from a distance. A constant barrage of negative self-talk leaves you feeling worthless and hopeless. Irritability and inattention get in the way of doing the things you love. You may struggle to make and maintain meaningful relationships with others despite your best intentions. You may have coping methods that you know aren't working for you. Still, you've struggled to create and maintain healthier habits aligned with your most optimal self.

You’ve ticked all the boxes - you've achieved success both educational and professional. You’ve met and exceeded many expectations from society, your family, and your own childhood. But you’re not happy, and you’re not sure why. Maybe you’re not even sure what it would mean for you to be fulfilled in your life. The idea of pursuing what will bring this level of satisfaction feels selfish, and you’re battling feelings of guilt about even contemplating it. I work with ambitious & thoughtful individuals who are often high achieving and good at supporting and taking care of others, yet struggle to take care of their own needs and wants

I am a psychodynamically trained psychologist. I also believe in using an integrated approach when helping someone to understand the how and why of what got them to this point in their life. I have found that an integrative approach to therapy works best. If a client has a non-Western approach to coping with life issues, that can be integrated into the treatment. I adapt my approach to what is best suited for you the client. It is my goal to build a therapeutic relationship with you by creating a safe and healing environment where you feel safe to explore your thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

It is through our relationship with others and our relationship with ourselves that we can learn who we are. I work with families, couples and individuals as they navigate loneliness within and between relationships, manage life transitions, navigate grief, and learn to better understand their mental and physical health. I am passionate about the work that I do and have seen how therapy can be a place to find self-acceptance, resilience, forgiveness, and healing.

Open Relationships Non-Monogamy Therapists
Why might an individual want to see a therapist specializing in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?
A client seeking help with an open or consensually non-monogamous relationship will prefer to talk with a professional whom they can count on to be nonjudgmental. Talking with a supportive therapist may on its own help relieve some of the stigma and challenges partners face. That said, the most important factor in the success of any type of therapy is the ability of the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond. For this reason, an individual or couple could find success with a therapist who does not specialize in non-monogamous relationships but with whom they can build trust.
When should open or consensually non-monogamous partners seek counseling?
Like other couples, polyamorous partners typically seek counseling when they face relationship challenges they can’t solve themselves. In non-monogamous relationships, this could include breaches of trust, including infidelity; unclear rules or violations of boundaries; jealousy of outside partners; the stress of juggling the needs of multiple partners; or the effect of high partner turnover on children. Like those of other couples, polyamorous bonds can be threatened by increasingly frequent arguments, poor or dysfunctional communication, diminished emotional or physical intimacy, or the feeling that something is wrong, even if they don’t know what it is.
Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?
No, but individuals seeking help with non-monogamous relationships would most likely consult a licensed professional with specific training in couples counseling or couples therapy. Couples counseling and couples therapy both involve teaching concrete strategies to navigate conflict in relationships. A good therapist can engage both partners as they explain these approaches but can also work with a single partner.
How long does therapy for consensually non-monogamous couples typically last?
Couples therapy for any type of couple, tends to be relatively time-limited, lasting around 12 weeks on average. A good therapist will tailor sessions to the individual partners’ emotions and sometimes their past, along with patterns found to be repeating in the relationship. In many cases, clients should expect their therapist to assign “homework” between weekly sessions.
