For over 25 years, I have dedicated my life to helping men and women overcome myriad issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, relationships, CPTSD (complex PTSD), developmental trauma, ADHD, and chronic medical conditions.
Don't Let Your Feelings Get The Best Of You. Is a persistent, overwhelming sense of grief and sadness preventing you from living the life you want? Are you dealing with intense emotions of shame, guilt, or hopelessness for seemingly no reason at all? Perhaps you have experienced a traumatic event or childhood neglect that is manifesting as fear, anxiety, or helplessness. Or it could be that you recognize the signs of depression but feel like you have nowhere to turn. If any of this sounds familiar, you are not alone. And I want to assure you that there is much we can do to help you find inner peace and greater contentment.

Having worked with roughly equal numbers of men & women from 40+ countries and many ethnicities, I’m highly sensitive to individual differences.
I support my clients in: (1) effectively navigating career and workplace challenges; (2) improving their confidence and self-esteem; and (3) enhancing their relationships. My approach is warm, deeply accepting and personal. As both a therapist and executive coach for 25+ years, I've intensively studied many approaches to psychotherapy and human development to be as helpful and effective as I can. Which of these approaches we'd use will depend on your unique needs and what we decide together best fits for you. I’m focused on significant progress in the short term and even more change and development over time.

I specialize in working with men who can be hard to reach and who want to get better in their relationships.
You're in a tough spot, feeling alone, maybe afraid you will lose an important relationship. You might have a life decision to make. You need to feel greater appreciation for what you bring to the table, and to feel more trust with your partner. You have been overloaded by stress, and sometimes fly to anger easily, or feel directionless and misunderstood. You can be hard on yourself, and on others.

I work primarily with men who have hit “rock bottom” and would like help getting up.
My goal for each man I work with is to provide hope and support while facilitating the recovery process. This usually requires us to dig deep and figure out why we engage in destructive behaviors. It also requires us to develop a treatment plan that specifically targets the maladaptive behaviors and reduces the chance of relapse.

For several years, I have worked with men, boys, and teenagers of diverse backgrounds who have been sexually assaulted, raped, and abused.

Do you feel embarrassed and bothered by your experience, and worry that others will not understand how you have been sexually violated and abused? Do you struggle with managing your romantic relationships, your friendships, as well as your emotions and thoughts because your past uncomfortable experience with sex have made sex and your sexuality confusing, uncomfortable or even overstimulating? I specialize in working with men, especially issues of fathers/sons and/or masculinity identity development.
People come to psychotherapy for a variety of reasons. Making our way in this world demands so much self-reliance and yet we are given very little opportunity to get to know ourselves well. We keep our fears and uncertainty about whether we have what it takes to survive our struggles very close to our chests. This is such a fragile place to live. Ignoring our emotions and "soldiering on" creates a life of isolation and confusion. This may manifest as depression, anxiety, or uncertainty about how to wish, desire, and create a life worth living.

I work with men, regardless of sexual orientation, who feel stuck in their lives in one way or another. My approach is individualized and varies depending upon who you are and what you want to work on. As a rule, however, my sessions are very active and directed. Men who have been in talk therapy before typically tell me that working with me is different. They say that we are breaking new ground rather than rehashing familiar territory. Things move and they start to see changes rather quickly. Check out at my website for more information.

I have a special interest in supporting male identified folks, adults and emerging adults, as well as relationships of two or more people.
I offer a warm, inviting, consistent space to focus on whatever it is that is bringing you to therapy. I do this in part by supporting you to name and reflect on your experiences/relationships and consider how they are working for you; and where you can feel more agency within or around them. These conversations are guided by YOUR hopes, values, and dreams.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
