I use teachings from cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and the Gottman method to inform an evidence-based therapy practice.
It is through our relationship with others and our relationship with ourselves that we can learn who we are. I work with families, couples and individuals as they navigate loneliness within and between relationships, manage life transitions, navigate grief, and learn to better understand their mental and physical health. I am passionate about the work that I do and have seen how therapy can be a place to find self-acceptance, resilience, forgiveness, and healing.

My focus is to develop a relationship with the client. This is called the two person model which is different than the old fashion practice where the doctor is one up and the client is one down. Rather, the two person model attempts to understand the client through questions and mutual discussion. I am not a silent therapist. I give feedback and remain fully engaged with the patient. Together we build a rapport. I adhere to a humanistic approach.

This past year has been really challenging for our relationships and our sex lives. Maybe you've been struggling to resolve differences with your partner/s, or maybe you're just feeling stuck. I help clients identify and understand what lies beneath these stuck places, and work to free them from relational and emotional distress. Using easy to implement tools for healthy communication and intimacy, I help couples negotiate desire discrepancy, find solutions for low-sexual marriages, and navigate the impact of extra-marital relationships: including polyamory, infidelity, & consensual non-monogamy. I am kink aware & LGBTQ+ friendly.

I strive to provide a comfortable environment where you feel heard, safe, accepted, and supported in making your desired changes. With compassion and empathy, I will support you in discovering your inner strengths and empower you to overcome the obstacles you may be facing. I believe that each individual heals in their own way and that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all. Part of my approach is asking questions – a lot of questions – so that I can understand you better and also help you explore what you may not have on your own.

My approach to therapy is integrative and through a trauma-informed and multicultural lens. I respect and have deep appreciation for clients who invite me into their lives allowing me to witness their truth: the past traumas that inform their current perspectives; the ongoing struggles with racism, colonialism, and prejudice; and the hopes and dreams they continue to cultivate despite all of life’s challenges.

I'm a holistic psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, and coach. I have been practicing since 2007. I love helping people with relationships, dating, life transitions, and purpose and fulfillment. To create deeper change, I blend Western psychotherapy with Eastern philosophy, practical tools, and my intuitive gifts. I also enjoy working with couples, and have training in evidenced-based models of couples therapy, including EFT, PACT and Gottman. My clients feel deeply safe with me and seen by me. I can hold both immense compassion for your pain and vulnerabilities, as well as guide you towards your truest essence and most expansive self.

Gottman Method Therapists

How does the Gottman method work?

One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?

Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?

Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
