I have a particular skill in working with
women
, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals and folks new to therapy.
Are you not feeling like your usual self? Are stress, work, family pressure, relocation and/or COVID overwhelming you? Is there just way too much going on? Sometimes our brain won't turn off and stop worrying, sometimes it is difficult to get out of bed or get a good night's rest, other times it is tough to buckle down and focus. If you'd like to feel more calm, more relaxed, less upset, and more happy - let's chat. Therapy can help - even if you're not sure how. I see mental health as part of one's overall wellness. My approach focuses not just on having fewer negative emotions, but also on experiencing more positive emotions.

Do you feel trapped by your past and anxious about your future, unable to live in the present? This malaise of modern living is often a sign of past trauma. I can help you uncover and release the experiences that keep you from living a full and zestful life. My primary focus is
women
and parents, particularly those with a history of trauma. We’ll explore the feelings that arise in your body, and notice their links to your thoughts and behaviors. I’ll empower you to choose a more positive narrative, to look at your life through a different lens.

You are determined, smart and used to navigating challenges but living life in a pandemic in addition to all the personal stressors is weighing on you. Normally you could handle this yourself or push the worry away but bigger questions are arising and you are left feeling overwhelmed, lost in ambivalence, stressed, and not sure what can help. You feel like your dreams and what you have worked for are slipping away and it's impacting your life & relationships. This may be triggering lots of painful or scary feelings, memories from your past, not feeling like yourself or the idea that now is the time to make real change.

I have particular interest in working with and supporting
women
through puberty, early adulthood, reproductive years (including preconception planning, childlessness by choice, infertility, assisted reproduction, termination, and loss) and menopause.
Life moves so quickly these days, it's hard to take the time to really think about who we are and how we are living. Often, it takes years of patterns that are hurtful or self-destructive to wonder why we aren't feeling happy or fulfilled. Psychotherapy can provide the time and space to really understand and experience ourselves in a new way. I will listen with curiosity and warmth and will collaborate with you to help effect positive change in your life and relationships.

A large part of my life's purpose is to help
women
, men, and couples cope with and heal from life's traumas. I believe in therapy as a way to heal, starting with a caring relationship. Accidents, health issues, disease, child abuse (sexual, physical, emotional, or neglect), family problems, grief and loss, etc. can be traumatic. Problems add up and cause complex layers of stress and challenge over time. People say that I am warm and caring, I listen carefully, am patient, sensitive, and don't give up. I pay special attention to making the space safe for you.

Profound change comes through understanding and knowing ourselves. You can express yourself more clearly and be more fully yourself. I help people tap into their ability to understand themselves and those close to them, and communicate with love and respect. Sometimes, creating better relationships requires engaging in processes of healing old wounds and traumas. My goal is to help you, and with couples, you and your partner and families become happier.

Adulting is hard! You might feel overwhelmed with balancing work and home life, causing you to forget to care for yourself and your body’s needs. Sometimes, you might even turn to emotional eating or binge eating to deal with all the stress life keeps throwing at you and feel too ashamed to talk about it or seek support from others. But don't worry, we understand! My name is Keesha Clark, and I have dedicated my life's work to helping
women
and Black and BIPOC individuals improve their body image, heal their relationship with food, learn to prioritize self-care and honor their body’s needs.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
