relationship
issues.
You don't have to do it alone. People often come into therapy when they have hit a crisis in their lives. It can be hard to feel like your usual coping mechanisms are not working anymore, or the situation you are dealing with is more than you can handle. Having a warm, compassionate, supportive, and qualified ally to listen and help with these issues in a safe and confidential space can help you feel less isolated and overwhelmed.

I have experience working with adolescents and young adults and enjoy working with
couples
and families as well.
The purpose of therapy from my perspective is working to gain understanding about yourself and the underlying rationale for what makes you you so that you can take steps to be the best version of yourself. I tailor my approach to each individual's unique needs and work with them to actively restructure the patterns of thought and behavior that are keeping them stuck and unhappy, allowing them to move through life with a greater sense of freedom, clarity, confidence and purpose. My ultimate goal is to empower individuals to live fuller, more satisfying lives.

I have great compassion for the human struggle and I don't want you to feel alone with it.... It's far easier with another person who cares and understands. I've spent my whole life studying psychology: Formally, at Stanford (BA), at UC Berkeley (MA, PhD), and ongoing Continuing Education; informally, from colleagues, clients, and 20+ years in private practice. I enjoy working with people from all walks of life. I'm open, empathic, authentic, interested and interactive. I like helping people with
relationship
difficulties, life transitions, anxiety, grief, self-criticism, social inhibitions, and emotional trauma, abuse, or neglect.

partner
who can be painfully critical, or who doesn't look out for you. Perhaps you are trying to hold yourself together, or hold a

Focusing on the therapeutic
relationship
I build a foundation with you to work from a trauma-focused approach, also using harm reduction, Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral therapies.
Therapy allows the parties involved to enter into a journey unlike any other. Throughout this journey I follow closely along with you to help you identify those areas you are looking to challenge, and those you may be unaware of as well. As humans we typically hold back in what we truly want to say or what we believe, I do my best to help you navigate those different nuances of what is said and what isn’t said; to help you become more aware of those conscious and unconscious thought patterns that you may be working through.

Do you feel stuck in your personal life or your
relationship
? Are your thoughts of constant worry, hopelessness, uncertainty overwhelming your day-to-day journey? Have you decided it's time that you approach these feelings and emotions head-on? Therapy is a brave and powerful first step towards exploring what might be contributing to these feelings. I help address these experiences by utilizing a goal-oriented and solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral approach (CBT). I work with clients to help support them in bringing their strength in the room and allowing them to be able to get in touch with their inner self.

Hi and welcome! I would like to offer my hand in your journey. Often, people seek therapy when they are in a crisis such as a challenge in marriage, infidelity, difficulty with an adolescent, a transition, depression, anxiety, psychosis, or struggling with substance abuse. Sometimes people seek therapy when they need someone to help them reframe an issue or offer a different perspective. I value and respect each individual I work with. I work with adults, children, adolescents,
couples
, and families using many different theoretical approaches tailored to match your unique needs and personality.

I am dedicated to helping young professionals overcome the obstacles standing between them and the lives that they want to live. Many young adults report feeling “stuck” in at least one area of their lives. This can include recurring problematic
relationship
patterns, difficulty finding motivation at work, or chronic feelings of failure despite their objective success.

I work with Asian American individuals and
couples
around
relationship
issues. Most of my clients are thriving in their careers, but they want more. They want meaningful and deep connections. They want to be seen and accepted for who they are. But as Asians living in the US, being seen and understood is often complicated by cultural misunderstandings, holding conflicting values and identities, communication differences, prejudice and racism, intergenerational trauma, and immigration issues.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
