I work with
children
(birth-18), adolescents, and families.
My work is relationally based. I believe that development throughout our lives is formed through our relationships. The therapeutic relationship we share will be an important factor in understanding, improving, establishing, and responding to those relationships. Even when things are particularly tough or uncomfortable, creating and tolerating change can be daunting. It’s easy for individuals and families to get stuck in old patterns that no longer meet their needs. We’ll look at those patterns: how they developed, how they affect you, and how to take steps toward freeing you and your family.

"Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of overcoming it." Helen Keller. Those words have been a source of inspiration to me for years as a person and a psychotherapist. I have worked with many people who have been brave enough to try to understand and make changes to what they struggle with in life, and also to live life more fully, creatively, and lovingly.

Often, people seek therapy when they are in a crisis such as a challenge in marriage, infidelity, difficulty with an adolescent, a transition, depression, anxiety, psychosis, or struggling with substance abuse. Sometimes people seek therapy when they need someone to help them reframe an issue or offer a different perspective. I value and respect each individual I work with. I work with adults,
children

*PLEASE NOTE: I am not accepting new patients until January 2023 due to being on leave from my online practice. If you’re interested in online therapy and that doesn’t feel too far away, I welcome a message from you then. I recognize the courage required to begin or return to psychotherapy. There is tremendous value in exploring ourselves honestly and in a protected space. Such a space seems hard to come by these days. I work best with people who possess a genuine curiosity about themselves and those who recognize that sustainable change takes time and effort.

I work with
children
, adolescents and adults using a psychodynamic framework to think with you about the meaning of your struggles.
Entering into a therapeutic process can be compared to traveling to another country. Each experience is unique, it takes time to feel at home, and it's often more fulfilling accompanied by a local. Psychotherapy provides an opportunity to slow down and dig out an intimate and safe space to be curious about one's mind. Working together, we can explore your roadblocks from different angles or create alternative paths. In my experience, there is often no easy and straightforward answer to one's suffering, feeling of emptiness or confusion.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
